Description:
Floating on Truk Lagoon aboard the Truk Odyssey Liveaboard surely isn't a hardship.
|
The 132 foot liveaboard has three room types to choose from. There are 6 king or double bed rooms, 2 private single staterooms and 1 double/twin bunkbed room. All fully carpeted staterooms have attached bathrooms, their own air conditioning controls and a DVD player.
All your meals take place in the visually appealing dining room. Fijian teak tables and a full service wet bar made out of palm wood fill the room. Buffet-style meals make for a more relaxed and casual atmosphere. From a hot breakfast in the morning through to a hearty dinner, your tastebuds will be in seventh heaven.
There are several areas to hang out with fellow guests and crew. The entertainment lounge has a variety of things to keep you entertained, from a TV/VCR/DVD to a library, you will not be bored. There is also a well stocked fridge in case you need a snack. The sundeck has open air as well as covered areas to lounge about on. This is also where your dive briefings take place.
The majority ot diving is done right off of the dive deck. As soon as you arrive on board, you will set your gear up in your private seat. Air and Nitrox refills (for certified Nitrox divers) are done right at your seat. You won't have to take it apart until you go home, as it will remain protected in the adjacent dive locker.
Diving the lagoon is a gift. The Ghost Fleet of Truk Lagoon is renowned as the world's best shipwreck destination and there are also 300 varieties of hard and soft coral. Longing for hair raising adventure? There is also a shark dive to get your heart pumping a little harder.
The vessel calls Weno, Chuuk, home.

The wrecks have become artificial reefs, providing homes for a thriving ecosystem. Huge gorgonians sprout off the decks, anemones wave in the current, eagle rays shuffle along the bottom searching for food as sharks silently soar past. With a variety of wrecks to choose from, each with a different story, boredom is not an issue.

This was our first livaboard and it set the standard! I can't think of one complaint except to say that it does require some travel time. Odyssey staff met us at the airport with a warm and welcoming greeting. The boat was spacious and very comfortable. All staff made us feel that we were a top priority while fostering a sense of family. The food was delicious and plentiful. Diving was amazing. Captain Mike gave a dive briefing before every dive with a short video clip so we could not only navigate the dive safely but undertsand the history of each ship. You could dive by yourself or take a guide who were all top notch. The odyssey has a partnership with the local resort the Blue Lagoon so if you had a flight late the night you disembark you can check in at 8 am. allowing you to catch a nap before heading to the airport. Odyssey staff pick you up and transport you to Truk airport for departure. It's a dive vacation of a lifetime!
