Osprey Beach Hotel Diving
The resort has partner relationships with several scuba diving centers. So, dive shop operated boats back right up to the resort’s white sand beach to pick you up. There are over 26 plus dive sites nearby. You can even take a short walk from Osprey Beach Hotel and visit a dive shop or two. More importantly, Grand Turk is known for wall dives in close proximity to the shore and while the coral covered walls may start at 30-50ft deep, they drop off some 11,000 feet to the ocean floor. Shore diving can be done but requires a longer swim to the reefs. Visibility often exceeds 100 feet.
This deep corridor separating Grand Turk from the Caicos Islands is like an autobahn freeway for sperm whales and humpback whales going from colder northern waters to southern warmer mating and birthing grounds. Smaller pelagic and schools of fish also cruise the deep channel. Meanwhile, sting rays like to swim by you right next to the water’s edge.
Attractions and Activities
The Osprey Beach Hotel is known for its Bird Cage Bar & Grille. So, you can come here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Your table is right next to the pool, and you are looking right out at the ocean. More importantly, please make reservations when the cruise ships are in port. There are also a few other restaurants you may wish to try. Some of the local favorites include barbecued food, jerk chicken, conch chowder, lobster bisque, coconut shrimp, grilled snapper, curry snapper. Above all, you must try Key Lime Pie and Chocolate Rum Cake several times just to play it safe.
Most restaurants and shops are just a short walk away from the hotel. However, you may need a taxi or rental car to visit The Cruise Center. This is where the cruise ships come to port and where the world’s largest Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville, Jack’s Shack, and the only Starbucks on the island are located along with other tourist shops. Now, back at the hotel, you can swim in the pool, visit the garden, lounge in the loungers, find a good book at the library. In conclusion, it’s extremely relaxing to view the ocean during the daytime and soothing to listen to the ocean’s sounds at night.
