Curacao
Curacao is a Southern Caribbean island with extensive coral reef formations along its coastline. Because of this, the island is a very attractive scuba diving destination. Curacao's has a semi-arid, sunny climate so diving takes place here all year round. Furthermore, the picturesque European-style architecture contrasts nicely with the islands' tropical vibe. The historic capital Willemstad is a ...
Our group just got back together after our dive trip to Dream’s Resort in Curacao. We had a group of 12, had 10 scuba diving and 2 non divers. Dream’s Resort was very nice, everyone in the group was very happy with the service and food. The different restaurants made a nice change of food and menus. The rooms were very nice and clean. Room staff was very nice and accommodating. The dive shop we dealt in the resort, was Caribbean Sea Sports. They were very Professional and accommodating in many ways. Joyce , Hugo and other staff met us all as we arrived for our meeting at the dive shop. The owner Orlando also made it very easy and convenient during our diving vacation. We had a couple of equipment issues and Orlando and Hugo jumped in and helped make it one of the best diving vacations ever!!!!! I and my group give it 10+ and will return soon.
- Jim R.
We had a wonderful time. The resort was nice and the price was right!
- Leslie and David B,
Staff excellent, room very nice with great view and grounds very nice. Food was fine. No a/c in rooms upon arrival. Was on 5th floor and was moved to the 4th floor and given a fan that I had to repair because it was not working. Room was cooler but not great. A/C came back on but not by much just a little better. Room never had great A/C entire stay. 1 elevator was out and not working GOBY DIVERS - Great people, great staff, diving good but not as good as Cozumel. Last dive day boat broke down, but Goby refunded us on island directly. All in all, a great trip except for the A/C

Buddy Dive Resort Bonaire
Buddy Dive Resort is located on the popular scuba diving island of Bonaire in the Caribbean ocean. The islands' closest neighbors are Aruba and Curacao. With divers in mind, they designed 11 modern buildings with 1,2,or 3 bedroom apartments and 1 bedroom studios. As a result, the apartments have full kitchens, bathrooms with showers, furnished living areas, and large balconies or patios. The studi...
Bonaire
Bonaire is a diver's paradise for scuba diving from boats and shore diving. The Island is a coveted destination for both scuba divers and snorkelers. Being a Dutch Caribbean island means it has a good infrastructure as well as high standards for education, healthcare and sanitation. Because the locals speak several languages including English, conversation is easy. The American dollar is the cur...
My family and I had the most wonderful vacation @ Buddy Dive. From the pick up @ the airport in the late evening to a super dive facility - all was easy and truly was a diver's delight. This was a dream vacation to Bonaire’s Buddy Dive Resort. It could not have been any better.
- Jackson
The trip was excellent – flights even though sounding horrible actually worked well. We arrived early got all our paper work and dive check outs done. Although flight home was very early…but nice to be home at a reasonable We were upgraded to larger rooms and the staff was great We are already planning to return again next year One thing we overheard was that Buddy has dive boat issues and many need major mechanical overhauls – hope they can get this cared for. The staff believes all monies are being diverted to the live aboard that Buddy is starting versus taking care of the local operation.
- Clark
The room at Buddie’s ended up being a three bedroom instead of the two, this upgrade was a bonus for us. The room met our needs perfectly. The service at Buddies was wonderful and so was the diving. We had a fantastic week in Bonaire. Everything ran smoothly; from the time we were picked up at the airport until we departed. Buddies runs a first class operation. Underwater highlights include a 6 foot green turtle, large tarpon, night dive at the salt pier, and the Hilma Hooker wreck.
- Mark
We had a great time as always. The rooms were spacious. We shared a two bedroom/2 bath with adjoining doors (as oppose to the 2bedroom/2 bath apartment that we had stayed in previously ) and it was just fine. . They have updated their decor with new kitchenettes, refrigerators, and HD TVs. We enjoyed the 6 boat dive much more than the usual 11 boat dive package as we took it easier and didn't feel as rushed. As it turned out, we still did 17 dives. The water temperature was a little colder than usual, so in the future we would probably do Bonaire in the Fall instead of the Spring. Everything went smoothly.
- Alcover
The hotel room was excellent - it is our new favorite room at the resort. Beautifully remodeled and comfortable. We like being on the 2nd floor on the north side of the complex. The service at the hotel was great and the restaurant menus seem to have improved. We were happy to eat onsite for our whole stay. The dive operator were fabulous! John had a couple of equipment issues that Marco was able to fix quickly for essentially no cost. The familiar faces greeted us like old friends. The shore side storage area for gear had been remodeled and was a real improvement. We saw several "squadrons of squid" hanging out in the shallows near the surface. These were the first squid we have seen. There were numerous turtles. Three barracuda followed us as we made our way into the shallows toward shore, with the largest heading right toward us, which got our heart beat rates up. In general it seemed that the reef is quite healthy. A beautiful experience.
- Carol
As usual, our Buddy Resort dive vacation was wonderful. The breakfast buffet was very good. The rooms have been upgraded since our last trip down there ---- bathrooms were very nicely done! Altho the room was OK, it would have been better if the sofa had been a full size sofa or sleep sofa and it would be nice to have a blender in the kitchen. As usual, the hotel and dive staff were friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed the Friday BBQ at Buddy’s and John and Susie (photo shop) gave us recommendations for fabulous dining spots in town for the rest of the week. And, of course, the diving right in front of Buddy’s is great ---- saw several octopi, lots of flounder. Also loved the ‘conservation talk’ about the coral ‘trees’ on Buddy Reef. This was my 8th trip to Bonaire --- my 4th trip to Buddy’s. Before finding Buddy’s, I stayed at Divi Resort but I don’t like the Divi casino atmosphere. I love the hard core diving culture of Buddy’s ---- it attracts the best kind of people and I will be returning as often as I can!
- Elizabeth
Overall, I’d say that the trip was terrific. Diving was great, as always, but I did notice fewer critters on the reef. I think that’s probably due to the Lionfish invasion, which Buddy Dive is taking an active role in hunting, teaching divers how to hunt safely (with an instructor only) and cooking their catch. The dive staff was attentive, a little more controlling on the boat dives than say the Habitat but there is still a lot of freedom on the shore dives. The boat dives are limited to 60 minutes with encouragement to stay at the 50-80 foot level, max at 100 ft. (understandable with the use of Nitrox), and requiring everyone to dive in a general group with some flexibility. The dive operation had a terrific PADI Certified dive course in teaching how to help to regenerate some of the endangered coral (Staghorn and Elkhorn) through the Coral Restoration Foundation that I would highly recommend as it gives you an opportunity to help restore the reef and give something back to the sport. Also, the night fluorescent dive was a cool experience. There is also a very good Photo Center, independently run from the hotel, that can assist you with most photographic assistance including rentals, critiques of your own photos and repairs. Hotel staff was courteous, friendly and always pleasant. As for the apartment, I would say that the bathroom was a bit cramped and the air conditioning which was located in the bedroom, did nothing for the main room, but one can get used to that.
- Robert
Our recent trip to Bonaire was extremely enjoyable for both Martha and me. Each day offered fun both above and below the water. Martha made great friends while snorkeling, She even found a $50 bill tucked in the sand at about 10 feet. Once it was snatched from the sea, the three snorkeling friends went right to the bar to splurge on Coco Locos! Accommodations were just fine and the food at Buddy's proved really super. I thoroughly enjoyed the diving and was able to capture some fairly decent shots throughout the week. Will send a couple when I return home and have access to my files. Just a suggestion or two...it would have been nice for the dive masters to be more involved in finding the local critters instead of just floating along watching the group. Also, they might have been a little more proactive in helping change out tanks for the older divers. We all managed though and had great times.
- Judy
We had a great time . We did have a big problem with the airline however. The outgoing flight was on Saturday with United from Austin to Houston to Bonaire. There was a maintenance problem with the aircraft and the leg from Austin to Houston could not be completed in time for the connection to Bonaire. The next flight to Bonaire was the next Saturday, and this meant the entire scheduled trip was going to be missed. I called Buddy Dive and they said that since this was the day we were scheduled to arrive, our entire pre-paid reservation would be forfeited. OK - I understood. Because of this, we rescheduled to fly to Curacao two days later from Houston. We then connected on a local carrier from Curacao to Bonaire and got there three days late on Tuesday. We thus missed half the trip and ran up over $1000 in extra travel and lodging expenses. We bought the travel insurance recommended and are now documenting the claim. All the above being said, when we finally got there we had a great time and are planning to go back soon.
- Bob
Buddy Dive was great, as always. We really appreciated getting the room we had requested (#511). It seems that Buddy has made some upgrades, including paving the driveways and enhancing the dining menus. We had a wonderful time and look forward to returning to Buddy Dive.
- Carol
Buddy Dive Resort experience was excellent as usual.
- Sonja
We had a wonderful time. We got the room location we wanted. There were considerable upgrades to the furniture in the room as well as to the resort since the last time we stayed at Buddy's, about a year ago. Service was good. We only ate breakfast at Buddy's. We never ate at Ingridents, instead we went downtown to It Rains Fishes x 3, Sebastian's, Patagonia, and Casa Bon Pizza. Clear blue seas for diving and saw green moray, hawksbill turtle, large lobster, sea horse and squid. The last dive of the trip was my 500th dive! All in all we had a GREAT time!
- Jeanne
Wonderful Family dive vacation at Buddy Dive. Staff at hotel and on dive boats the best! Just on Buddy Reef saw Octopus and a great night dive with many Tarpons. The coral restoration project amazing. I hope to do the course next visit!
- M.
Buddy Dive was great. The freedom to come and go was fantastic. The staff was very friendly; however, there was very little sense of extra engagement or connecting with the visitors. We often like to spend more time with the dive guides. This is a great place for a larger group or people that want to go it alone. We had fun exploring the island.
- Eric
This was our 4th trip to Bonaire and our 3rd stay at Buddy's Dive Resort. We had a studio in the "new" Lions side of the resort. It was "okay". The only window was a small window in the bathroom at the back of the unit. AC would only go down to 24C. Water heater leaked into the bedroom area...house keeping placed dry towels as a fix. Shower enclosure leaked and ran into the bedroom...house keeping supplied extra towels to "dam" up the water and keep it in the bathroom. The "patio" was was just the walkway into the room...about 6ft by 3ft...two chairs and a small table. Service was great and the food was good...especially the the "Ingredients" fancy restaurant ($75/pp discount did not apply in this restaurant). The food was a little expensive but $75/pp discount made it more reasonable. It was windy so most of the boat dives went to Klin Bonaire which is not as good as the main island. We did get two dives out of nine up north. We thought the coral and fish/critters were not as good as prior dive trips...maybe the time of the year. Nothing unique. I did see a robins egg blue nudibranch that I had not seen before, but only once. We dove the Salt Pier and were disappointed...not much to see but a couple sharp tailed eels.
- Chris
Fifth trip to Bonaire, fourth stay at Buddy's. It was outstanding as it has been in the past. And it's the best dive resort of my trips to Little Cayman, Cayman Brac, Roatan, Utilla, and Cozumel. The included breakfast is the best anywhere. The tank operation is the easiest, the quickest and the most user friendly. Free Nitrox, of course. Vehicles come with the room, with 7 passenger vans (brand new)for larger parties. All vehicles were brand new this year. Bonaire has quite a few European cuisine restaurants with delicious food and reasonable prices, one of the reasons I keep going back.
- Lucien
Our room did not have a hair dryer or an electrical outlet in the bathroom. We had to put down a deposit to get a hair dryer. The only mirror was in the bathroom. Therefore, I had to dry my hair in the bedroom without a mirror. Everything else about the studio suite that we had was great, especially the kitchen. It was stocked with silver ware, cups, plates, and glasses. The new appliances were wonderful in the kitchen.
- M.
This was our 3rd Trip to Buddy Dive. Great resort, great people, fantastic diving. We were going to limit our Bonaire trips to 2 years, then move onto another destination but where else do you have unlimited shore diving of this caliber! Whether it's one or 8 dives a day, there's something for everyone. We have some folks heading back for more on their own in just a few months. We had a great trip.
- Kathy
My wife and I had a great time at Buddy Dive, Bonaire. The reefs are in amazing healthy condition with lots of interesting life. Although we did not do any beach dives the island is so well known for, we did enjoy a couple of night dives right off the Buddy dock. Such a short swim to so much beauty! Although the bed wasn't as comfortable as we had hoped, the room was very clean and the kitchenette was very complete and convenient. And with so many stores and restaurants so close to the property, we had plenty of choices and time for meals without cutting into our dive experience. The entire staff, from the front desk, to the dive operation, on property restaurants & bar and housekeeping were all exceptionally friendly and helpful. We definitely look forward to future visits to this resort.
- Nick
We had a wonderful family dive vacation at Buddy Resort. The resort was very nice but not American type luxury. Also the kitchens are not really set up to cook in. There were only five plates, 5 bowls etc. The diving and snorkeling was beautiful and worth the trip. The only critical remarks I would have is that there was no hot tub, which we really enjoyed after scuba diving, and there were mosquitoes everywhere.
- Lorie
Resort held no surprises. Rooms were spacious & clean. The kitchen could have been equipped alittle better but it wasn't bad. I liked the idea that breakfast was included it made the day start out easy. The resort food & drink prices weren't bad & we never felt taken advantage of. We had a diver certification fall through & they gave us our money back---which they didn't have todo. We appreciated that. I would recommend the resort to friends
- J.
We had a great time! Buddy Dive Resort (BDR) was as just as we anticipated, since this was our 6th vacation at BDR. Our room appeared to be recently remodeled, it had new appliances and was in good condition. The bedroom AC did not function the first evening, we reported it and it was repaired that day. We have no complaints. The pickup we were issued was old, rusted and beat up. The tailgate was hanging on by a thread (rusted chain), however…is served us well, and we were not concerned about the rough look as we loaded and unloaded tanks and equipment each day. They have some new trucks in the lot, so they appear to be rotating their fleet, we just got an old one. The restaurant food was good, and so was the service. I would call it pricey, some of that can be attributed to the location…but $13-16 for a burger is pricey. We were prepared for it. We ate at Blemies and Ingredients, as well as a few places off-site. Fantastic diving! We observed the coral spawning (never seen that before). We encountered loads of turtles, moray eels, and more fish life than we could remember.
- John
I had a great time diving at Buddy Dive Resort. The room was quite spacious and included working kitchen area, living room and deck with ocean views. The morning breakfast was tasty with lots of choices. The dive shop was super professional and accommodating. I would definitely recommend this dive resort.
- Henry
Our trip was great!! Really enjoyed Buddy Dive Resort. We had a delay in getting our rental vehicle the first day, and one of our group members broke her elbow getting in the water off the dive boat, but otherwise the staff and accommodations were wonderful. Really loved having our own dive boat for the group!! Would definitely stay there again.
- Kim
Always great diving and customer service.
- Anthony
We had a great time on our vacation. When we arrived at Buddy Dive at noon after spending a week at Divi, we were pleasantly surprised to find our apartment was ready. It was on the second floor with a great ocean view. However, it had recently been painted and had a strong paint smell. My allergies/asthma did not like it! We tried airing the apartment out, but that didn't really help. We knew that our downstairs neighbors were moving out the next day, so I called the front desk at 9:15 PM suggesting the possibility that we could move to that apartment if no one else was scheduled to move in. Even though the manager had already left for the night, the person I was speaking to immediately called her and got back to me right away, saying that we could move. I mentioned that both of us would be out most of the next day and wouldn't be able to move until late in the afternoon. They said that wasn't a problem. When I went to reception the next day to get the new key, the manager came over to me and gave me a voucher for the buffet at the hotel Friday night. It was for 4 people and 4 drinks! I was quite shocked. She said that she wanted her guests to have the best experience possible. I think that was very impressive. The apartment was clean, had quiet air conditioners, free wi-fi, a nice TV, and fully stocked kitchen. The view was great. The breakfasts were good, and we had good meals at the hotel a few of the nights. I had a few issues with snorkeling off the boat. In two of the cases, the sites chosen were not compatible with snorkeling, and I felt that I wasted my money. I made sure to let them know, though.*:) happy In my various snorkel trips, I saw turtles, sting rays, various eels, and such a large variety of colorful fish and coral. My companion liked the diving and had similar experiences diving. We definitely would stay there again.
- Sheila
This was the first dive vacation after getting certified with my two younger sons (all adults now) so I wanted a really special trip. Overall the resort had a very nice atmosphere and people were helpful. Buddy dive lives up to its t-shirt that says "Eat, Sleep, Dive Buddy Resort". They are well structured to support people there to dive, dive, dive. The average person arriving at Bonaire has significant experience diving and has likely stayed at Buddy on a previous trip. The drive through tank fills with equipment wash tanks was very convenient. They don't hold your hand when you arrive unless you ask for the help so you need to ask for that help (which we did). They were more than helpful if you asked. After you know your way around they are really good about just getting out of your way so you can have fun. We dove about 18 times on lots of different reefs with most of our early dives at the Buddy Dive house reef, which was very nice. I would however say they were running short on lockers in the dive center and the dock was a bit of a traffic jam in the evenings with everyone getting ready for night dives on the reef. The activities center was great to work with on kayaking/snorkeling at the Mangrove Center. Room service at the resort was timely and they did a nice job. The kitchen served our needs and the AC kept up. Breakfast was very good and ready on time each morning (we are early risers). Lunch and dinner at Blennies tasted great with okay service but maybe a bit on the expensive side. We ate in the city a few times and the food was okay (not as good as the resort) but less expensive. The arrival and departure transfers were definitely a 'cattle car' with all of our luggage in big trucks and everyone tightly packed on buses. I suspect this was driven by the fact that several large dive groups arrived on the same plane with us. Next time I might rent an Avis truck near the airport and skip the transfers. Diving on Bonaire: Bonaire met or exceeded all of our hopes for what a great scuba diving destination should be. Clarity was in excess of 100', water temperatures were 81 to 83 F so we just dove with our rash guard shirts and swimming trunks, the abundance of marine life and diversity and health of the reefs was spectacular, night diving was a bit disorienting at first but by the second night dive we were having a great time. Swimming with a feeding school of large tarpons attracted to our dive lights was amazing! We were very careful with our buoyancy so as to not touch anything and we quickly increased our confidence levels after some practice. We did experience a brief rain shower but we were already getting in the water for a dive so who cares. To be clear Bonaire's big attraction is diving…snorkeling in the cave, kayaking and snorkeling in the mangroves, shopping in town, visiting the donkey park, etc…are all very nice but the island is very dry, rocky and most of the plants there are covered with thorns. Thank goodness for a steady breeze that makes the mid-80s temperatures okay.
- Warren
This was our 3rd trip to Bonaire and we love it there! Buddy Dive Resort is a very nice facility and we like it there as well. My only complaint was with the rental truck. They told us it was only 3 years old, but it's had a dang tough life! The shore diving opportunities are excellent on Bonaire, but we could see a definite decline in reef health on every reef from Karpata to White Slave mostly at 35' (10 m) and above from our last trip in 2012. Lots' of bleaching on mostly the hard coral, but we saw some tube sponges and gorgonians that were suffering as well. The dive community had better step it up and force the congress in the USA to get us on a green path or we're not going to have any reefs to dive in the near future. And this thought, these damaged reefs absolutely breaks my heart! It will take us all being very vocal to get this done. Will you help?
- Jim
As always, Buddy was great, dive site and the staff was great as well.
- Bill
Had a great trip, Buddy's was perfect for our needs.
- James
It was wonderful! We had a great time at Buddy Dive and really loved our stay. Buddy's 1 bedrooms are comparable to Don's, and while the 3 bedroom suites were nice, the bungalows at Don's are better. The staff at Buddy's was incredible and they have a great dive operation. The food at Blennie's was decent, but there are better options within walking distance. (We walked over to Don's many times to eat at their restaurant) Week 1 Buddy scheduled our group for 2 tank boats for just our group, which was wonderful. By week 2 we knew most of the dive staff and they were very helpful in scheduling our second week as well. My wife took their PADI Lionfish hunting course. Great instruction. It really enhanced her diving experience. Next year we are looking at going back for at least a week.
- Jesse
The reefs are healthy and beautiful - unfortunately I got sick and only got two dives in. Buddy Dive itself is a little tattered. The twin beds are more crib-sized than traditional American twin beds - really uncomfortable (especially when you get sick and have to spend time in them). I'd go back to Bonaire, but probably not back to Buddy Dive
- Lisa
Exceptional Vacation, Buddy Dive Resort is an all-in-one place to dive and relax. Quality living accommodations, great food. Best boat and shore diving options. You can literally dive 24/7. Nearly all bottles are Nitrox, no tracking tickets. Just Dive, Dive and Dive.
- Scott
Buddy dive is a great dive resort. Everyone involved in the dive operation is knowledgeable and friendly. I had a broken leg 6 months prior to the trip and it was still weak- they helped me in and out of the water every time. The only complaint would be about the restaurant Blennies. We had dinner there 3 times and the service is atrocious. The BBQ, which had always been excellent, was terrible. They ran out of fish and chicken and the line took forever as people waited. We were in line for 45 minutes, only have to wait again unless we wanted only sausage and pork. The breakfast buffet was fine. It seems that they hire students with no waiting experience. It's too bad that after a night dive you can't have dinner at your own hotel without service issues.
- Kathy
This was our 3rd trip back to Buddy Dive and had a great time. As always we were greeted at the airport on time and check in was a breeze. The resort hadn't changed much in the last few years so most everything was the same. Staff was very helpful, boats nice and crew OK. Some better then others. Dive shop was the same and photo center closed as the person who ran it is retiring. They have some new vehicles which was really nice and driving around the island is always fun along with the shore dives. Lots more cruise ships in town which did create problems for us as Buddy Dive is trying to capture more business from the cruise ship passengers. Because of this our last boat trip was almost 1 hour late and the crew was not happy about it although they were great with us. Seems Buddy Dive is understaffed and not enough boats to work this all out correctly. Also, we had a group of 19 divers and 4 snorkelers and usually we would have the same crew for all trips but not this time.
- Ken
Our Bonaire trip was indeed wonderful. As this is the 6th time there, expectations are high, and so was the experience – justifies going back. Buddy’s was great – food, diving, the room ,the training. We’ll certainly be back soon.
- Robert
Buddy Dive was all it's promised to be - great diving, good DMs and captains, dive operation well run. Nice room, pretty good food @ resort. Those are the most important areas, but a few comments about our personal experience, which was just fine overall. But if you want adequate lighting or a screen door that works so you are not savaged (literally) by lil 'squitos, or any kind of ambiance in your room, or a single place to hang wet things - upgrade to another place. I spent hours trying to clear out the bugs (I am NOT an anti-bug freak either!) that were intent on drinking us. Lovely grounds but looked like they needed more care and clean up. Another thing we found odd -a different DM and boat almost every dive - no continuity w/ personnel so you don't get to know them, or they you, and cannot count on diving w/ new friends either - all depends on how quick you get to the board to sign up. Will think hard about returning here but Bonaire is wonderful!
- Anthony
We just returned from a wonderful vacation at Buddy Dive Bonaire. Buddy Dive was great. The staff are very helpful. I get the feeling, having been there 3 years or so ago, that they are investing substantially in their infrastructure. There is also a new manager named Rene who was constantly around and making sure things went well. We would surely love to return in the future. Just for some insight, we learned that Insilair is having alot of financial trouble and therefore equipment problems. There is another airline on those routes called Divi Divi Airline. Yea, sounds funny, but they have smaller planes but they have alot of flights and the passengers say they are great. FYI.
- Dean
Buddy Dive provided their usual excellent accommodations and service. There were more guests present than we've seen in the past, but we still had adequate space for our diving needs.
- Carol
All went well at Buddys
- Donis
Just wanted to tell you that our vacation was perfect. Buddy dive Bonaire is a great operation and everything went without a hitch.
- Harry
Our trip was wonderful. The accommodations were upgraded to a 3 bedroom with plenty of space. The resort is run like a fine tuned engine with all cylinders firing to ensure a well functioning organization. As far as diving goes, Bonaire always rates high on my list of destinations. Taking care of their reef is of utmost importance to this tiny island and it shows. Coral restoration is ongoing and the habitat is thriving making the dives in this area unbelievably awesome. The dive packages are better than I have ever experienced anywhere and my son and I had no problem completing 15 dives each with 6 boat dives among the 15! Buddy Dive stands behind their promise to provide a safe and pleasurable dive destination.
- Naumann
Maduro recommended Buddy Dive and I was very pleased with the resort and accommodations. Their description was acurate and they had great pricing. Bonaire is a great place for underwater photos!
- Harrison
Love Buddy Dive. Spent two weeks for the first time. So much more relaxed than a week. Will be back again. This was my 7th trip to Bonaire, 4th to Buddy Dive.
- Kathy
We had a super trip to Bonaire. The diving was awesome, the PADI course for the kids worked great and who knew there were so many great restaurants there? Plus we windsurfed on Lac Bay and want to go back to try the mountain biking and more boat dives with Buddy. We ended up thinking Buddy Dive had a much more vibrant diving program than Captain Don's. Buddy had lots of families and kids taking courses and in the water. Their dive shop was bustling and we loved the mix of locals and Dutch folks who worked there. For groups with kids, we preferred Buddy.
- Scott S.
We just returned from buddy dive. All went smoothly, they were at the airport waiting for us. We went to the resort, and since we registered online, we were given keys and off we went to our rooms. Augusto the dive shop manager greeted us, we went to the dive shop and signed in. Was able to do our check out dive when we arrived so we could start our boat diving on Thursday. We had our own boat and we had a great schedule. I would definitely stay again!
- Cindy H.
The trip was exceptional. The accommodations were great and the diving was, as always, exceptional. The staff ay Buddy's is always friendly and accommodating. Other than the delayed flight the trip was fun and I am looking forward to doing it again.

Lovely resort near town, the rooms are a bit tired but still adequate for needs. Many stairs, a consideration when traveling with folks with more limited mobility. Food was amazing, prices reasonable. The diving center was great, super helpful and getting tanks was an easy process. Everything was within a short drive and the island is easy to navigate. Many of the shore entries are challenging for people with more limited mobility and folks with this challenge may want to consider utilizing the affordable boat dive option from the resort. The only real negative of the trip was the Bonaire tax authority which charged us for an individual who could not travel, double charged one individual, and charged us for the whole group. The online payment portal does not work. Suggestion for other travelers would be to register each traveler individually and have them pay the visitor tax with their own QR code. Utilizing a group QR code caused us lots of issues and the tax authority refuses to give refunds for duplicate payments. Paying the marine park tag fee and printing at home was easy and simple. We laminated the printouts to be sure they would survive the trip, a great tip we picked up from other travelers.

Buddy Dive has gone cashless, you are forced to use credit cards if you want to eat, drink and be merry. Not the way we vacation - we use cash for our vacation fun. Buy your beer and snacks at the Chinese Store down the road - saves on the bar tabs. The Wi-Fi is not available in all units. They replaced the doors to the patio that block the signal. Since Wi-Fi is free - they do not guarantee that it will work in your unit. You have to either sit outside on the patio and be attacked by mosquitos or sit at the bar. The staff is very friendly, accommodations and attentive. The units are nice and clean. I can't say how the food was, since we couldn't use our cash at the resort. Diving was great although we didn't see many of our usual finds - squid, rays or octopus, all MIA. We did encounter many turtles.

Overall it was a good trip. We stayed about 10 nights with a primary focus on diving. The resort is kind of dated but they are definitely working to improve things. I found the breakfast buffet at the Ingredients restaurant excellent and the staff at the Blennies bar/restaurant friendly and helpful. My only minor complaint is they seemed to be sticklers about making reservations at Blennies even though the place was pretty empty. I thought maybe it was because they use it to plan for staffing needs, which they are in short supply of (as is about everyone). Advice is, just make a reservation no matter how empty you think the restaurant will be. The accommodations we stayed in, a 3 bedroom apartment, could use some work. Water pressure was poor (even non existent once!) and only the bedrooms have A/C. The 1st floor bedroom is fairly small. The upstairs rooms are more roomy and are "master suite" like. The room cleaning staff was excellent and took care of the room(s) quite well. If it matters to you, the Wi-Fi on property is good when you can get it (which is most of the time). The locations of the access points and the concrete buildings make it difficult or impossible to get connected at times - even in the same apartment. They have, what I call "faux beaches" by the pools with lounge chairs, thatch umbrella shade, sand and oceanfront views that I liked. Bonaire has very limited traditional sandy beaches so it was a nice touch. The bar is nice and convenient to get a drink but you don't get chair-side service. They have a pool that adjoins the bar with seats in the pool water you can sit at. If you are intending to "drive and dive" at Buddy with their trucks be advised most/all of them are manual transmission. The extremely unavailable automatic transmission trucks surprised me a bit. So if you are not able to drive a stick shift, be certain to have this very specific item "locked in" before you arrive.... otherwise you might be scrambling (or learning to drive a stick!). The dive shop at Buddy's was awesome and the staff there were wonderful. Overall it was great experience. I would definitely return one day.
- Brian E.
The diving was great as always and the people at the dive shop were great. The restaurant is slow and people spend more time talking to each other than taking care of their customers. Will most likely go to Bonaire again sometime but will stay somewhere else.

The Bay Islands are a scuba diving destination that's part of the 1,000km-long Mesoamerican Barrier Reef also known as the Great Mayan reef. Our experience at AKR was wonderful! The cabin we had was on the mainland, and it was very private and quiet. Our cleaning lady left fresh flowers in the bathroom every day! People with bad knees should ask for cabins on the island because of the flights of stairs, but we did not find this a problem. Actually we were level with the restaurant so that was a good thing! The people at reception and in the dining area were always not just ready to help, but happy to help! Every meal surpassed the meal before, and I was really happy that I did not come home 10 pounds heavier than when I left home! The dive boats were well maintained and our captain and divemaster (the same all week) were knowledgable and glad to do whatever it took to give us a great experience, despite the weather. The first part of the week the wind was rather strong, and we took buses to the other side of the island where conditions were calmer. Some days the visibility was better than others, also because of the weather, but the diving was good every day. We say a large variety of marine life, from nurse sharks and morays to lobster and crabs, and a sea horse. In some areas the soft corals were gorgeous. There are 2 wrecks, if this is what you enjoy, and some tunnels to dive through which was fun. I enjoyed watching the dolphins train almost every day, and the snorkling by the dolphin lagoon was great. I enjoy horseback riding, and the horses at the resort and the "wrangler" really gave me more freedom to ride at my level. The beach was not beautiful, but the ride along the beach was still enjoyable and interesting. I would recommed this resort to most anyone who enjoys the amenities Anthonys Key provides. People who cannot climb stairs might have a hard time.
- S.
This was our second trip to Anthonys Key. Due to medical reasons we needed to postpone our original dates. Both Maduro and Anthonys made it easy and stress free to change our plans. My wife doesn't scuba but enjoys just hanging out. As for me not only is the diving great but folks there are enjoyable to be around. I am planning already for our next visit. Again thanks!
- John
Our vacation was awesome. Our dive master Marvin was the best we've every had and the captain of the dive boat, Jimmy was very helpful and friendly. We thought the wait staff were polite, efficient and professional. They leave there attitudes at home. The reef at Anthony's Key seems to be in very good condition and we were pleased that Roatan in general seems to be very Eco conscious.
- Collen
Anthony's Key Resort was efficient and charming, the staff was great, the food was well prepared, the weather was good, the diving had great viz, no current, and interesting dive sites, we met really nice fellow divers and had a relaxing but fun-filled stay. Special perks that just worked out: *Our flight came in earlier than others, so we got through the diving registration process before the rush and we were sitting at the pool having drinks instead of standing in line. *They gave us the very first Bungalow (#11) on the Key -- right beside the kayaks and the water taxi. So convenient! * The divers on our boat were all excellent divers and fun people -- we laughed a lot! *Our divemaster and captain seemed particularly good at getting us on good spots and finding cool underwater things -- we saw more than others we talked to. We also enjoyed the the night dives, I loved the dolphin dive (I was on the only one that week where the dolphin showed up!). I can't say enough about the quality and professionalism of the dive operation, which was the main reason we were there.
- Lynnan
We really love returning to Anthony's Key Resort for our yearly dive vacation. The hillside jungle room was small and clean. Just right for us. However, next time, we will get air conditioning! The food is wonderful and the staff are all very nice and sociable to the guests. Of course, we love the diving. Their operation is efficient and the divemasters and boat captains work hard to ensure divers are safe and have the best time!! We will go back!
- Joy
We had a great time at Anthony's Key. Everything was coordinated very well and we met super nice folks on our dive boat. We like how we dived with the same group everyday, as we were very compatible. Food was good and plentiful and the dive shop was very easy to work with.

My wife and another couple spent 7 days at Anthony's Key Resort. Two of us were divers and two were not. We found the resort to be very well equipped and dedicated to divers and snorkelers. The rooms were very nice in separate cottages with daily maid service which was well done. Three meals a day were included and I think we gained weight!!! The food was varied and delicious. Wait staff was attentive and efficient. The diving was spectacular!! We were assigned the same boat and group for the week with 3 dives per day and two night dives during the week. If we had wanted to do shore dives, they were included as often as we wanted. There were plenty of other activities including snorkeling for the non-divers to do to keep them busy if they wanted to. If you just want to relax and lay by the pool, that was available as well. Overall an excellent experience and would recommend this resort to other divers. Dive sites were very close by, so travel time was not taken away from dive time.
- Greg
We had a wonderful time at Anthony's Key Resort in Roatan. Attention to detail is obviously paramount to the staff. We enjoyed the diving, paddle boards, pool, happy hours, boat taxis, meals and the views were incomparable. We would stay there again!
- M.
So much fun at Anthony's Key. We dove our booties off and tried 3 new things: night diving, shark diving and zip lining. Great staff and a ton of fun!
- Louden
Anthony's Key Resort was wonderful as a whole. The Rooms were nice, clean and the housekeeping staff were very attentive. The restaurant, even though all inclusive, had servers with individually prepared quality meals and was willing to address dietary needs. The dive operation was one of the best. Organized, professional, ecological and safe. We were able to dive at least 3 dives a day, with night dives a couple of evenings. Marvin (dive master) and Rupert (boat captain) were very very good! I liked that you stayed on the same boat with the same dive master and captain for the week. The front desk staff were always very helpful. As a whole it was a great experience.
- D.
This was our second trip to Anthony's Key Resort. The rooms are great, the food and the service is fantastic. The diving was superb. Our boat captain Rupert and our dive master Jeromie were the best. The Roatan Marine Park is beautiful and appears to be real healthy. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone. Everyone that works there always have a smile on their face, always laughing, it is a very happy place. While diving we saw sharks, several huge free swimming green moray eels, groupers, turtles, lobsters, crabs, and on the night dive a basket star, peacock flounders, an octopus. At the end of our night dive, and with all our lights out, bioluminescence. Awesome!
- Norm
Just got back from our trip to Anthony's Key last Sat. What a trip! We were originally looking at a Club Cozumel trip, which I'm sure would have been great as well. But our experiences at Anthony's were awesome!
- Nick
Anthony's Key, the place was great…lots of upgrades with wood walkways to everywhere, no feeling that we were cut off from locals (met lots of people that took transport to the little towns, etc.). Made great friends with people there…AK kind of pairs you up at mid day and eve meals with same people when they can…great for making new friends. I didn't dive as much as I wanted, mostly because I got the revenge the first two days, probably from water in San Salvadore…who knows. Anyway, did snorkeling w/ my partner (had to teach her how to swim, then snorkel), did the dolphin encounter, zip line, and SHARK DIVE. My own camera flash flooded first dive, so my pics aren't the best…luckily, friends sent us great pics later. So, great trip.
- Raymond
We just spent a week at Anthony's Key. The rooms on the Key are very nice and the entire resort is well thought out.The staff including the dive operation were very helpful and friendly. The food was great and lots of choices if your a picky eater. I thought the pricing for a complete dive vacation is very affordable and reasonable. I can't wait to book my next trip back to Anthony's key.
- Bill
We just wanted to let you know that we had a great time at Anthony's Key in Roatan. We would go back.
- Carol
I love Anthony's Key for their incredible service standard, their friendly people, very user friendly dive boats, especially good food, and low key environment. However, I find the rooms uncomfortable. The outside deck is a lovely addition to the room, with water views, but the room itself has no seating at all, so if weather is inclement, there is no where to sit and read, relax. Also, the lighting in the room is very inadequate. The diving in Roatan has deteriorated at a shocking rate - we were there 4 years ago, also in December - the algae is everywhere, starving the coral heads. Lion fish are abundant, aggravating the loss of fish life. There were lots of turtles and schools of fish in the past - not anymore. We have seen this happening everywhere else in the Caribbean but not to this degree. So sad!
- Anita
I had a very nice time at Anthony's Key Resort. The room was very comfortable, and I really liked the layout; the cabins in the forest. I'll admit walking up the steps (there were 90 up to my room) could be a bit taxing at the end of the day, but I definitely would prefer the hill to the key. The food was outstanding!!!!! Absolutely some of the best food I have ever eaten anywhere..... sea bass, hog fish, even maine lobster. Wonderful salads. I very much liked the 3 boat dives/ day. The place was very clean, staff very friendly. Beautiful dive boats, and sites less than 5 min. away. Definitely, you get a lot for your money. Also, I felt extremely safe and comfortable traveling alone. Here are a few of the negatives. Diving: they were pretty rigid about the length of the dives. Most of the dives were max 50 min. This may have been my particular dive master... he seemed ready to get out of the water. Also, if you want to shore dive, it is extremely inconvenient unless you are staying on the key. You have to lug all your gear onto the little boat, and then drag it to the other side of the key. It's exhausting before you even get started. So, shore diving is not an option in my opinion (way too much hassle). As far as the diving goes, it was very nice..... but visibility not too great. Not teeming with fish . Coral structures beautiful; reminded me of Grand Cayman as well as Bonaire.
- Kathleen
We had a great time. The staff at Anthony's Key Resort were very helpful. Our dive master, Sherwin, was enthusiastic and took us on some great dives. The sites were close and we saw all kinds of marine life; large king crabs, sea horses, manta rays, lots of turtles and lobsters, reef fish every where and the coral was amazing. We would definitely go back.
- Beth
Anthony's Key was an overall great experience. The dive program was as good as anywhere in the world. The food was very good with excellent service. The resort was clean and well managed. The only major problem is the Hillside Superior room quality. Accommodations were clean but very old and in major need of renovations. As good as the diving ,food and service are, it is a real shame to see such old and dated rooms. I would not hesitate to recommend this resort to anyone except for the poor rooms. I will not return to Anthony's until the rooms are renovated.
- B.
Hi Roxanne. Anthony's Key was nice. Our rooms where airconditioned so we slept comfortably ( we did hear a few people complaining but those were in non-ac rooms). The bugs as always bit me (this was our 5th trip to Roatan, the other previous trips where at Cocoview) but that's normal and I'm used to it. The food was better than expected. The reef is healthy , althought the water was murky as again I've come to expect since our first trip there in 1998 one week before Hurricane Mitch hit.. We kajaked and played with the dolphins. We were able to get all our 19 dives in as the weather cooperated. The resort is busy for the time of the year ( 12-14 divers /boat) , but everyone kept their distance so again it was very pleasant. I did not have any complaints and expect to return some time.
- A.
We had a great time! It was a little hot and humid, and the bugs were a bit pesky, but overall the trip was great. The rooms were clean--ants seemed to be a small problem--and air conditioning was a must, but the view was super! The entire crew was also very accommodating. My luggage was lost the first day - with all my dive gear, but they took care of me, and located my bag. Food was fantastic, service, was also great. The dive boats were roomy and very clean. Our dive master was good and very attentive, but he wasn't very exciting or overly friendly--but none the less - great dives--no injuries, so I guess that says something for him. The resort kept us busy enough and provided some nice entertainment. It was sad that the government issues were going on, as this did put a little damper on checking out the rest of the island and enjoying some of the other amenities, but Anthony's Key was a great place overall, and we really didn't need to go anywhere else. We might consider going back--when the government matters are resolved and possibly when the weather is not quite so muggy. Thanks for the referral.
- C.
Anthony's Key Resort is the most organized dive resort I have ever visited. The staff takes care of your every need and want. The dive masters go with you and point out all the amazing wildlife. The Roatan wall is an adventure you can never get used to. I cant wait until next year.
- London
Our week was a huge success. The kids esp. enjoyed it because the counselors were wonderful. 1st Christine and a day or so later, Peter, and then a dolphin trainer who also worked with autistic adults was available when the kids did the dolphin encounter. She was most enthusiastic to work w/Josh but her time was limited.(Dolphins came 1st) We liked the idea of always eating at the same table with the same very friendly and helpful waiter. Not all the adults took advantage of 3 dives a day.I would have enjoyed some of the other activities e.g. horseback riding, dolphin snorkel but they were extra charges..even visiting the park on Maya key was extra $20. Happily, all children stuff was incl. in the package. The rooms were adequate. I suggested queen beds since they plan 4 to a room.(eliminate the night stands and queens would fit.) The internet in the lobby did not work all the time. Extra dive master/instructor was available for a $50.fee per dive which I took advantage of. I also commented on the exit sheet that there should be 2 dive masters if the boat has12 or 10 divers. Even with a 'buddy' it's easy to get 'lost' since all or most divers have never been at that dive site. I tried to call the "CEO',Mandy on the 800 number but it only connected to a different travel agent and not the front office of Anthony's which is what I wanted. There were a lot of extras , mostly in the form of tips for the large staff as well as boat captain and dive master. But like I said, the kids enjoyed it a lot but for adults only, I would go back to Bonaire or the Caymans or even Cozumel.

Had a great time at Roatan at Anthony's Key.

We had a wonderful time on vacation in Anthony’s Key Resort. The room was perfect- quaint, private and not the ordinary hotel room. My only issue in it was the lack of light to read by at night- otherwise just fine. The staff at the resort were the friendliest bunch I have ever met. Every one was happy, helpful and so pleasant. I fell in love with the place instantly. And the food was delicious!! The dive boat operations were professional and well run. We loved the fact that we were on the same boat each dive with the same dive master, captain, and guests. By the end of the week we were all well acquainted and like one big happy family. I have never had that experience on a vacation before. The dives were all great. Beautiful corals and sponges, lot of sea turtles and eels. Surprisingly though, not that many fish. We were even greeted by a curious pod of bottlenose dolphins (yes wild, not the captive ones at the resort) on one of our dives. That made everyone’s week!
- L..
Anthony Keys Resort was the best all inclusive resort I’ve been at. The service at the hotel was excellent. My room was the standard room which was fine in December but in the summer I’d highly recommend a room with air conditioning. The horse back riding, fire dancing, boat charters and diving was fantastic. Underwater we saw tons of coral, sponges, turtles, a seven inch yellow seahorse and wild dolphins during one dive. Water temps in low 80s with over 100 ft visibility. Great diving with multiple shallow and deep reefs, swim throughs, and two wrecks.
- D.
The trip was grat one of the best vacations ever. Reefs were very healthy lots of turtles. Horse back riding in the beach was great. Food was good accommodations great. Got out b4 the turmoil of government.
- J.
I wanted to let you know how great everything was at AKR this past week. All six of us were ecstatic about our experience. This is the first time - and I've now booked 5 trips with some of these same friends - where everyone had absolutely no complaints. Just to give you an idea of what a rare accomplishment this is - one of us prefers diving on liveaboards, one travels fairly high-end with her husband, and one travels regularly on a plush expense account. All of us raved about the food - it's dramatically different from the last time I was there (new chef?). We had fantastic rooms (thank you!), loved the diving, horseback riding, island events, and causal atmosphere. Thanks again for working with me on this - it was a terrific trip!
- L.
Everything was WONDERFUL, FANTASTIC, PERFECT. We couldn’t of had a better vacation. The rooms were great, the SERVICE even more so. We usually like to go to different places but this is one of the places we would definitely go back to. PERFECT, PERFECT, loved the diving, saw so much sea turtles, sea horses. Different fish, octopus , lobster crab, barracuda, and many other things I need to learn and study on. I can go on and on. We kept busy with the 3-4 dives a day and the entertainment. WE loved Anthony Key’s Resort. I need vacation from vacation.
- H.
Our vacation was wonderful. The crazy flights (on our own accord to save money) was trying but we made it there just fine. When we arrived in Roatan, it took Anthony’s Key an hour to pick us up at the airport to take us to the resort. We were concerned this was going to be the norm on the trip but thankfully it wasn’t. The service was great, the food was great and the snorkeling was even better. We chuckled as we snorkelers think we saw just as much if not more than the divers. The color of the reef was unbelievable. We saw 2 octapus and lobster on the night snorkel. The underwater marine was great. Housing was exactly what you would expect on this type of a trip. Not plush but very suitable. We loved it. One of my favorite shots was taken from our front porch. No its not was an underwater wonder or a sunset. It was of our view. As I tell everyone seeing this photo, it says it all, life is great, especially in Roatan.
- C. & D.
Roxanne, We stayed at Anthony Keys. It was great. Food outstanding Pool great Dive experience great Dive locations outstsanding, and with 2 inclemant days went to the other side of the island for a great dive. would suggest it to anyone. Sue
- S.
Everything went well on the trip. The plane flights were on time and all of our luggage made it both ways! The resort was beautiful and we enjoyed it a lot. I have to say I kind of hated the stairs to breakfast, lunch and dinner (50 stairs and 9 landings). Other than that the resort was great. The dive boats were well taken care of and the ladders were sturdy and easy to climb up. Our dive master and our Captain were awesome. I couldn’t have asked for a better boat crew. The weather cooperated and the diving wasn’t too rough. We didn’t see as much marine life as we would have liked, but we did see a lot of hawk’s bill turtles compared to what we normally see. The room was great! I loved the deck with the hammocks. The amount of activities offered at this resort are unbelievable. And the “island fiesta” was great! We have both agreed we will be revisiting this resort in the near future.
- S.
It was a very nice experience. Accommodations were nice, beds comfortable, food very good, diving was close most sites within 10 minutes, seas not rough, boats not too crowded, great fish and sea creatures compared to Utila, visibility pretty good. I give them high marks. The only thing that was questionable was having us leave at 9AM to catch a 1PM flight. I think it facilitated their preparing rooms for incoming guests. Other than that I was a really nice experience, and I think we would repeat it if we could get a similar deal.
- Larry
The vacation was good the Room was great as last time the service at Anthony’s Key was great. Unfortunately The weather did not cooperate for a couple of days and churned up the water and the clarity was down and we missed about 5 dives. When I go on a dive trip that is my main objective and will do every dive possible. So as you know there isn’t a whole lot to do at Anthony’s key beside diving. But there is not anything wrong with some relaxation. I did up my cert to advanced. The water had a lot of current and was hard to take good photos but still ended up with some good ones (see images) I got a great video of an eagle ray.
- R.
Rooms were very good, we did not get the cabins we wanted but the ones we got were good. The resort service was very good. AKR runs an excellent diving operation. Diving, food, entertainment all very good. Lots of new stuff since we were there last; pool, private island with wild animals, much better horses, great dolphin experience The usual great underwater stuff plus, we dove with a whale shark and came up on a hump back whale. Diving was excellent.
- James
Overall our trip was awesome. The kitchen was very accommodating to my dietary restrictions. The staff was incredible, so friendly. We definitely want to go back some day
- Danielle
Thank you for the follow up. We had a great time at Anthony’s Key. The facilities, the staff and the set up were just great. We had fantastic weather and a weeks worth of great dives. We did a dolphin dive, night dive, shark dive, wreck dive, deep dive, shore dive and of course boat dives. If I had to mention anything and it would be minor, it would be that Anthony’s should mention the stairs and dingy rides. While neither of these bothered us at all, in fact the dingy rides back and forth to the cay we kind of fun, there were some that struggled with that effort. Food was good, people were wonderful and the setting is fantastic. Absolutely lived up to our expectations. Thank you,
- Mike
Our trip to Roatan was AMAZING and we all loved it!!!!
- Nancy
Anthony’s Key was great! Great property, nice rooms, great dive operation, good food. It couldn’t have been better. We will definitely go back.
- Stephanie
1. Just a pretty resort and well organized. Days just blended. 2. Beautiful rooms. Definitely worth the premium for the key and they gave me a free upgrade from the hillside when I asked. Hillside is overgrown with no view and dead air with no movement. 3. The integration of the dive boats with the kids camps was executed perfectly. 4. Food was ok, but not great. Everything was fine but not one thing was special. 5. Dives were great, our dive guide was first class, and the equipment is in excellent shape. 6. Standard complain about the sand fleas, but that is everywhere in Roatan.
- James
Almost everything about the trip was positive. Flights were all on time, although of course it's luck of the draw flying in and out of Philly in the winter. All pre-arranged transfers went smoothly. Arriving in Utila by rust-bucket ferry and getting picked up in a three-wheeled tuk-tuk was a hoot. Service was uniformly friendly and helpful at both locations. The accommodations at Anthony’s Key were excellent. The dive operation at Anthony’s Key is a well-oiled machine. Rental gear is excellent. The boats are fast, comfortable, well maintained, and depart on time. Our dive master was very competent, pre-dive briefings were thorough, and safety was emphasized. A delightful surprise at Anthony’s Key was an evening lecture that we went to on fish identification. Not expecting much from this, it turned out to be one of the most entertaining and informative presentations about wildlife I’ve ever seen. The diving on the island was excellent, and highly varied. We saw eagle rays, dolphins, free-swimming morays, octopi, reef sharks, nurse sharks, barracuda, spiny lobsters, more turtles than we could count, and many, many species of fish, coral, and sponges. The reefs are healthier than I’ve seen at some other places in the Caribbean. The underwater topography is spectacular, and the abundance of steep walls had the added benefit of allowing diving near the reef at whatever depth was desired. We did shipwreck dives (including the Aguila), night dives, and on Utila a night dive on a shipwreck, which was a real highlight. Visibility across all our dives ranged from 40 feet (rarely) up to more than 100 feet. The only negative, was food and water. We got all our food and drink at Anthony’s Key, never venturing out of either resort for meals. Both of us became sick at both locations. In fact, at Anthony’s Key, my wife became seriously ill with a food- or water-borne bacterial infection, costing us two days of diving. Several other guests at Anthony’s Key were also ill at the same time. (The medical treatment my wife got, at the medical clinic at Anthony’s Key, was excellent.) It’s hard to pinpoint, of course, exactly where these illnesses came from. The resort said that the “filtered water” they provided was safe to drink. I recovered quickly and remained healthy for the rest of the trip. So I suspect the water there. My wife’s illness at Anthony’s Key was sudden and severe, however, and probably came from food rather than water. My wife and I have traveled all over the world, and have encountered food and water that gave us trouble in many places. So this is nothing new for us. Digestions that are used to the highly sanitized food and water we have in the U.S. are very sensitive, and minor illnesses in a place like Honduras are hardly surprising. But if there’s anything that I think could be improved at Anthony’s Key it would be providing cleaner water and better kitchen hygiene. In summary, we had a fantastic trip. The accommodations were great, and the diving was excellent. I would go back again, and I would recommend this location to friends. If I had it to do over again, the only things I would do differently would be to make sure my wife and I would stick to bottled water and be a little more careful about what I picked off the menu.

The trip was wonderful. The room, food, service, was fantastic, and CLEAN. It was great. The dive operation was so smoothly operated and the dive master and boat captain made it fun on the boat. The diving was good there when it comes to critters it is what we always see on dives. No whale Sharks. :) The dive school offered a class on fish ID. It was fantastic and so worth the hour listening. The dolphin action adventure was fun too. Spendy but still a once in a lifetime event for me. One more thing be patient at the airport. It takes forever to check in to go home. Not as bad coming in but it still is SLOW.
- Elaine
An excellent value. Great diving. Good accommodations. I will return.
- Charles
We had an amazing time on our trip. I didn't want to leave! The resort was everything we expected and more. Our bungalow was charming and peaceful, the staff was very helpful and friendly, and the food was delicious. Our dive master and boat captain were knowledgeable and fun. We saw many delightful sea creatures on our regular dives including turtles, frog fish, green morays, sting rays, even a sea horse. We also did the shark dive, so we got some up-close time with some Caribbean reef sharks. When we weren't diving, we did some kayaking, swimming, the dolphin swim and snorkel, and the canopy tour. We really want to do a return trip and next time we want to take our daughter with us and enroll her in the dolphin scuba school.
- Sam
We had a great time, although we were a bit uncertain at first with their semi-regimented schedule. Although we’ve been diving for 7 years, we’ve only been to 3 different places so we’re still learning the various approaches dive resorts follow. On our last dive we saw the biggest turtles ever and had a few dolphins past by us – not the trained ones they keep at the resort – the sideshow which bumped up the number of folks around the resort, but not too bad. Their staff were fantastic and I probably cut my 2 for 1 savings in half via tipping, but I’m happy with spending my money directly on those providing the service. We talked one of the local employees to spend Fri afternoon taking us around and giving us a “local’s tour” of the western portion of the island.
- Steve
My trip to Anthony Key in Roatan Honduras was fabulous! The sea life and coral was stunning to say the least. The reef was so very healthy and not many lion fish. My DM and Cap'n were so nice and informative. They made me feel like a VIP. Still working on my pictures- over 2000 ;)
- Kristine
Room & service was great! Restaurant & Service was awesome :) Soups to die for! Diving wonderful, saw a yellow frog fish last dive! Delta airlines and transfers went smooth.
- G.
Facility well run and efficient. Food is very good. Facilities kept spotless. Air conditioning was good for cabin. Diving team does a terrific job. On time, we'll run and all were helpful. Diving was on par with Cozumel and Bonaire. Reefs are beautiful and in overall great shape. The sand flees are the one big pain. When they tell you to spray all day, you should. Some have severe skin reactions to the bites and look like they have measles. Some of us hate spraying so pay the price and I'm still itching and taking Benadryl a week later. Next time I'll spray all day as suggested by resort materials.
- Hector
Very nice resort, lots of amenities, friendly staff. Our cabin was not air conditioned, which was not to uncomfortable but I would not go back unless I had an air conditioned cabin.
- Joni
Absolutely Great
- Tony
The trip was wonderful and everything was exactly how we expected it. Customs was long and annoying at the airport, but the staff was waiting for us. The welcome cocktail was truly welcomed while we filled out the paperwork. They handled luggage right to our cabana walkway, which was great considering it had to get shuttled over on a small boat. The resort was very clean and well maintained. Our dive captain, Jon, and the entire dive outfit was top notch. We loved all the swim throughs and nooks and crannies we experienced. We also loved how the dive sites were so close. Our only complaint, which I emailed the hotel about, was feeling pressured into assigned seating (with strangers) in the dining area. We would have preferred to come and go at any time and at any table. The food was delicious and varied. Our daughter had an excellent time at the Dolphin Camp. The facilities and instructors were excellent. It was a fabulous vacation!
- Jennifer
Very successful trip to Roatan. I wrote for TRIPADVISOR, "The glowing reviews were correct" Bottom line, the diving was great. Lots of creatures...as many as Little Caymans Bloody Bay wall. Good personnel, well organized. Stayed with the same Capt and dive master all week. Great food. Polite and friendly staff. I got a superior room on the key and it was immaculate. Wonderful view of the sunsets and open water. The Maya Key excursion was very nice as was the island 'fiesta' on Wednesday...all included in the price. We did see some things underwater I have never seen or maybe once. Saw a bristle worm and a decorator crab along with lots of turtles, pipefish, huge green morays, stonefish, basketstars and octopus, cuddle fish, actually, more undersea life than this years trip to Caymans. Would not hesitate to go back.
- David
The diving was quite good with lots of diverse environments and a lot of definition to the reef. Also many fish and good macro photo opportunities. Dive operation is good at the boat level, with good DM and Captains, but the first day dock orientation is a fiasco. Better guidance for the dive orientation and nitrox briefing would have left the divers more relaxed. A simple sign that said dive orientation here at noted time would have been better than a 100 people asking the same questions. Nitrox briefing should have been divided into 2 or 3 groups. Any person who wishes to go to this location should get a room with AC, and super strength Deet, and other anti insect measures. Aggressive insect counter measures will greatly increase the enjoyment of the trip. I think many bites occur at night, so a treated net or treated bedding may be good.
- Dav
We had a fabulous time, great diving, great people on our boat. The food was delicious the bartenders and waiters were terrific! Over all grand time, will go back soon!
- Lane
We always love AKR. The weather was glorious! Diving was great as always. Boat had 10 people at the most on any given day. We were all about the same ages and dive times were the same for all of us. Can never say enough great things about the dive and boat captains!! We saw a difference in the food. It was still good but they cut down some of their costs with fewer choices being offered and a charge for a special meal offered the last evening if you didn't want the choices provided. We did not get the cabin we wanted but once we saw the assigned cabin we loved it more! The help at AKR is incredible. We have gotten to know several of the waiters and dive personnel over the years and it is so nice they continue to be a part of AKR. We had one disappointment. We each had a massage and will not do that again. The training of the masseuse we decided, was not what we have experienced here in the US.
- Vickie
It was phenomenal, I can't wait to come back! :)
- Sally
This was a fantastic dive retreat. The facilities, staff, food, and dive spots were exceptional. Can't wait to go back!
- S.
This was my 13th time staying at AKR, and my 16th to Honduras. I absolutely love the Roatan, and AKR, obviously. Two tips for future travelers to AKR....don't ever miss a meal, and if they offer you soup, take it!
- Steve
We had a great time and enjoyed our week!
- John
One of my favorite places. Has their act together as far as diving, and taking care of you. Has a real tropical feel and more to do than just diving for others.
- Doug
Great trip!! Food fantastic, room simple but clean and nice! Only complaint were the darn noseums, little bugs that make you itch like crazy. Worse place for bites ever but still had great trip.
- Sheree
Our trip to AKR was great. We had been in touch with Yolanda, before we left, with some special request. Yolanda was able to provide four very private bungalows, with an octagon gazebo dock for our group. I thought I would be OK that far from the boat taxi. It was quite a walk. She was then able to relocate us back to the place we had before. Much appreciated. The staff is always pleasant and it was good to have some of the same people we had in 2013. We were well taken care of. We enjoyed the food. The dive operation, as it has been in the past, ran like clockwork. They are safe, organized and efficient. We requested Jimmy and Caldarone and that request was honored also. We lucked out with Hurricane Earl. It had been near Roatan but left no visable damage. The bugs were bad but the weather was good. The line, arriving at Roatan's airport, was difficult especially with the heat and humidity. Realize that is not in your jurisdiction. A week goes too quickly
- Dorothy
We loved the room, especially the deck area. It would be great if there was an overhead light in the center of the deck. The staff were all great, from the boat shuttle guys to the wait staff. It would be great if there was an envelope to "Tip All", so we don't have to piecemeal all the tips at the end of the trip. I gave private tips to staff that went above and beyond. The food was probably the best part of the trip, as well as the dining room; after the diving of course. The schedule and availability of food, the selections, the flavors, and the timing were all perfect to match the diving times. The dives being so close to shore so we didn't have to do 30 minute boat rides each way for each dive was awesome.
- Mike
Shark dive a definite must do!!!
- Hobson
This was our third trip (I dive, my wife is a non-diver) on this trip I took my daughter (Hand't dove for 9 years) and my niece (She did her open Water Cert.), the two kiddos had a blast with the "Teaching Crew". Extremely professional and very patient due to a day or so of nasty weather they had us dive on the other side of the island. We have enjoyed the resort and have made plans to go back in 2018. We git it 10/10
- John
Excellent resort---they really make a point of taking good care of the guests. Rooms are beautiful with great views. The diving is great as are the Divemasters. Everyone I talked to thought they had the best Divemaster at the resort. When my mom arranged to get us a gift certificate to the resort for my birthday during our vacation, the front desk staff went and hand-picked flowers to go with it. The owner was very nice to us, but more importantly, his staff spoke very highly of him. I've had two excellent experiences here---can't say enough good things. Have heard complaints that it's too much of a resort/ not authentic Honduras. I'd definitely say that is true, but if you're going for a tropical vacation/diving, it's perfect. My one complaint is there is a lot of tipping involved. Makes sense for divemasters, boat captains, waiters, but I don't want to be needing to tip everyone who had a direct or indirect impact on our stay. Hope they are making a living wage without tips!
- Lacey
A great diving vacation. The food was good and the dive operation was great. We made a lot of new dive friends and plan to dive with them again. Anthony' Key is still well run and helpful to their guests. Any small problems we had were quickly resolved.
- Richard
Excellent, friendly service from the staff in all areas -- diving, dining, housekeeping, bar-tending -- but tipping policy is difficult and confusing. Nice facilities and very nice room. Dining room is open-air with beautiful view, but muggy in hot weather. Food was very good. The resort is oriented toward diving, but has lots of other activities available. Noseeums are an issue; repellent required for outdoor on-land activities.
- William
AKR is a very nice resort with attentive staff and very competent and site dive boat captains and dive masters. However, rainy season in Honduras can be very challenging, with rough seas, heavy rains, and poor visibility. Advise to consider carefully the risks of booking travel in the rainy season.
- Russ
Best trip ever. Excellent food, service and rooms with a view. Adult children did 18 dives while I did 15. Thank you!
- Douglas
We had a rainy, windy week of diving, but the resort did a marvelous job of organizing dives in for us on the leeward side with their fleet posted there. Overall, we liked their dive shop set up, lockers and gear washing arrangements, and the fact that we were on the same boat all 6 days with the same dive master and boat captain. The food was good and all in all, about the same as a live aboard arrangement except we got to come back to our bungalows each night for a good rest! We hope to go back sometime when the weather is more cooperative.
- Minier
AKR was BOGO but only for the cheapest room, which was just barely OK. All rooms were BOGO this year. The diving was average; a frontal system made it down there and stirred things up: bouncy bouncy. They cancelled one afternoon, bused us across the island the next day and cancelled that afternoon. The West End wall site and the South sites were 8s.
- Bob
Resort was one of the best ever! Professional, organized, and safe. Reef was awesome. Disappointed at the quantity of predator fish on the reef. Otherwise top 3 places I’ve been.
- Philip
Our week in Roatan was spectacular. Cloudy days without intense sun, great visibility, 80 feet plus and the best guide, Calderone, I have had in years. Had a wonderful trip!
- Don
Our entire experience from the moment we landed in Roatan until the moment we had to check in at the Roatan airport to leave was excellent. Service is fantastic. Staff is fantastic. The diving experience was flawless and superb. Highly, highly recommend AKR and we will return many more times in the future.
- CV
I have to say...this was a very welcome treasure! This resort is absolutely amazing! The staff, friendly courteous and willing to help with even the smallest request, in every department. The dive operation is exceptionally well run. The dive team/boat captains are exceptional! It was one of the most enjoyable dive trips ever. The food was amazing. Well prepared and great selection. We look forward to returning again
- Knott
Hi all, we spent 7 days on Roatan Island Honduras at Anthony's Key Resort. It was outstanding. We were met at the airport by the AKR Van and welcomed to Roatan. We were driven to the resort about 20 minutes from the airport. Our luggage was brought to our room while we checked in at the front desk. We were then escorted to our rooms shown the safe and other highlights. The food was varied, well prepared and tasty! All three meals were excellent each and every day. The rooms, while small, were comfortable and CLEAN. We dove every day and every day we say new dive sites and new surprises. The staff treated us very well and we never felt mistreated or disappointed in the service. Bottom line is if you want a first class time Anthony's Key Resort will take care of your needs. We WILL go again!!!
- R.
We had a blast. We’ve come to the conclusion Anthony’s Key Resort is the best dive operation in the Caribbean. The food, boats, dives, rooms, people and service is unbelievable. Of course Nico and Ross are the best dive master/captain combo we’ve ever had. We love this place.
- Doug
Great diving and facility. The No-See-Ums where really bad We sprayed ourselves but it wasn't enough. We were bit up really bad by the time we left.
- Bob
Everything was as advertised and lovely. The staff was terrific, from front desk to the AWESOME boat captain and dive master. Room and comfort of bed were great. We got one of the bungaloos we requested, with a terrific view. Having the same boat assignment and "friends" all week was a plus. We really liked that we were "grouped" somewhat by ability. We loved that the dive sites were SO close-minimal drive time to get there. We also enjoyed snorkeling from the shore and the night snorkel. We saw numerous lobsters and other critters, including an octopus. While diving, we saw a huge king crab, seahorse, lots of eels and other great stuff! Some weren't thrilled with the night scuba-too many jellyfish in their faces...We celebrated our 42nd anniversary while there. The pastry chef even had a personalized cake for us! Dinner on the 4th of July was "American" dinner-baked ham, etc and an American flag cake for desert! Food was good-even lobster! Really hope to go back there next summer!
- Gail & Robert
I visited AKR in April 2009 and found it to be one of the best vacations I have EVER had. 3 dives a day made no evening activities unimportant. The size of the resort (small) lends itself to a friendly atmosphere, and the staff (and dive personnel in particular) are concientious to a fault. Food was cooked to order, fresh and fabulous - best fish ever. Diving is mostly wall, 2 wrecks included in weekly schedule; good rental equipment; visibilty good that week. Some more traveled divers MAY find this area too tame, but the reef is healthy and abounds in life and color. "House" dolphins are well worth interacting with. AKR is on the leeward side of Roatan, which made for better access to some 30 nearby sites. Generous rooms, well-kept up property. Also, great horses for those who need a chnage, and like them spunky! I would recommend this resort to anyone, and have - I can't wait to go again!
- Lu
Our group had an amazing week of diving and relaxing at Anthony's Key Resort.
- Carina H.
Love AKR and all its tropical beauty of the jungle on the hillside and on the Key! The meals are excellent and chef prepared and served by very friendly staff. Our deluxe room on the key was very spacious, clean and with private deck and faced east to watch the morning daybreak! After the three dives a day, we enjoyed having a boat drink at the pool area. The Spa is wonderful for a massage or pedicure! The diving is Fantastic with stunning reefs close by. Divemaster's and boat captains are extremely friendly, knowledgeable, safe, and helpful. We had the pleasure of seeing lots of turtles, eagle rays, and free-swimming morays, and of course seahorses! Many schools of fish were seen on the reefs. If you do not dive there are other water sports to keep you cool...kayaks, sups, and swimming. The highlight of the day is to watch the sunset from the viewing deck on hillside! I love AKR and plan to return next year.
- Joy L.
I am a scuba instructor and technical diver, and have a family of 4 that dives and a 9-year-old daughter that loves the water. We have been on dive vacations to many known dive islands. Anthony's Key Resort, which I researched beforehand (this was our first trip to Roatan), in the end exceeded my expectations in practically every regard. I am the type of traveler that expects nothing to work out the way it should - and on this trip, excepting the cancellation of a return flight (thank you American!) - I was proven wrong. The staff at AKR was simply exceptional across the board - from management, dive staff, security, cleaning - everyone. The family was doing multiple boat and/or shore dives each day, I was working with one student, and our daughter was in dolphin camp. One day we did a shark dive that required a slightly earlier boat, and staff were waiting for us at breakfast (without us asking) to take our daughter and a few other kids that were in camp to hang out and play until camp started a little later. Whatever you want to do at AKR, you let them know and they make it work - whether it's special dives, outings, dolphin snorkels, or classes - it was so very well organized and professional. They made us feel like welcome guests and friends the entire stay, and I believe it was genuine - you could see it in the playful interactions between staff and the sense that everyone was onboard with the theme of "we just make things work". So nice. Also - surprises were: the underwater topography was really outstanding, one of the best I have ever dove, the house reef for shore diving was quite nice, and the night time bioluminescence spectacular. There were two quite decent wreck dives as well. You are placed on the same boat all week, which worked out well, getting to know the captain and dive master and also being able to leave certain gear on the boat was convenient for some folks (although there are lockers and rinse tanks right next to the docks as well). Bailey's key was very fun with dolphins, and was easily accessible by water taxi or kayak/paddle-board (which were also fun for an afternoon circumnavigating the key). Food was good, and transportation to and from the resort pre-arranged and flawless.! We will definitely return to AKR.
- Darrin Y.
Our trip was great even with one foregoing the snorkeling package. We all loved the resort.
- Clare G.
Nico was an amazing dive master! The week was fantastic diving, good food and great staff! Will be back!
- Marketa H.
This visit to AKR was better than ever! The new Registration/Coffee Bar, The Ankor Grill building is extremely modern, beautiful, and air conditioned! The staff is very friendly and helpful at any time you need. The boat diving is wonderful and not crowded with individual diver lockers for gear. I was given as much help as I needed to board the boat from the water. The boat captain even rinsed my gear! Excellent boat captains and dive masters! The new restaurant is beautiful, clean, with great service and delicious food! You won't leave hungry! You always have a view of the water while eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Our room on the key was very clean with comfortable beds and close to the spa and pool! We loved being over the water to watch critters moving around below us (starfish, urchins, small fish!) The day to Maya Key was great fun with a good lunch! Party night on the key had wonderful local musicians and dancers with a good bar-b-q dinner and drinks! You can still visit the hilltop bar and enjoy the evening watching the sunset and have live music! I'm glad I didn't have to climb that stairway but only one time! We have already booked out trip for next year and look forward to our return! It is a lovely resort in paradise!
- Joy L.
It was our first visit to Anthony Keys. The staff was amazing! They went beyond to make you feel welcomed and appreciated. The dive boats were great and enjoyed the dives each day. My only cons were that I wished there were a few different choices at lunch and that soft drinks were included. We will definitely return.
- Kellie C.
This is at least our 8th visit to AKR and it never fails to disappoint. Food is good. Service is ex Ellen’s. Dive shop is very helpful and informative and diving is superb!

Cayman Brac Beach Resort
Cayman Brac Beach Resort has 40 guest rooms and 70 dive sites. The island is located close to Little Cayman in the Caribbean. The scuba diving resort was recently refreshed and the beach renewed. The spectacular free form pool has an adjacent Jacuzzi. Each guest room has a private bathroom complete with hair dryer. The onsite scuba dive center is called Reef Divers. Enjoy our blog article on Cayma...
Cayman Islands
The Cayman Islands encompasses 3 islands in the western Caribbean Sea. Above all known for scuba diving and beaches. Each island, Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, is home to diverse dive site experiences.
DIVING CAYMAN ISLANDS
Grand Cayman - The largest island and one of the Caribbean's top scuba diving destinations boasts over 500 fish species. Grand Cayman has nearly perfect year...
The Brac Reef Resort is a terrific resort! Have visited before and really enjoyed it, but won't be going back, ever! Although the resort was super nice, the scuba diving left a lot to be desired. The lion fish have done a job on it. I saw a couple small turtles, a ray, a couple drums, lots of fairly large groupers and one small spotted eel. We also dove the Cap. Keith Tibbetts wreck, which is always fun. The resort provided activities in the evening like crab races and trivia competitions. The workers were absolutely wonderfully friendly and helpful. The food, delicious!! Rooms nicely appointed and cleaned every day. The valet diving is top notch, and the DM's are terrific people, and boats superb. Only problem was trying to get back home. Cayman Airways' planes not working, ended up having to spend the night in Grand Cayman, with no compensation from Cayman Air, due to really stupid policy. Oh yeah, there was no other way to get to GC, we all missed connecting flights.
- Deb
In my opinion the diving in the Cayman Islands is first rate. My personal feeling is that the three Cayman Islands are on a par with Cozumel as the best diving in the Caribbean. The dive operation is very well organized and runs smoothly. The dive boats are functional and comfortable including the simplified and uncrowded Nitrox calibration center. The valet diving service makes the diving experience very simple as it removes the discomfort of hauling our gear. The divemasters are very friendly and like to laugh, yet they are quite professional and knowledgeable. While the food was quite good, I thought is seemed a little on the repetitious side. Maybe this feeling could have had something to do with the fact that I have been to Little Cayman and Cayman Brac a half a dozen times or more. While I’ve always raved about the food which was clean and appetizing, it just seemed kind of boring this time. The service at meals was tasty, though, and the help was always ready to fill our water glasses, remove dirty dishes and be friendly and helpful. The new surroundings at the bar and the pool are very lovely; however, the architecture and style of the buildings and surroundings seemed to conflict somewhat. The facilities were all very clean, including the rooms, office, restaurant and bar area, but the new bar area seemed to be quite modern while the rooms seemed to be more of a colonial style. The new paint on the rooms was fresh and appealing. All in all, our experience was successful and our group had a great time.
- Roger
Cayman Brac was GREAT!! Excellent staff at the resort and on the dive boats. We spent the week with Stuart and Ellie and had some pretty awesome dives. The resort was small, quiet and just about paradise. Some of the reviews I've read have indicated that the food is great. Well, I wouldn't go that far, but there were choices at every meal and the food was better than at many of the "all inclusive" dive resorts that my wife and I have been too. Highly recommend a visit to this resort.
- Randy
We were there 9 days in beginning of June and lucked out, very quiet and hotel only half full. Awesome! After a full day of diving you could relax on the beach in their hammocks and nobody around. We had an upstairs corner room with a great view. Rooms are clean and comfortable. We were there for diving and had the all inclusive package.Great selection of food served buffet style. Always 3-4 choices of protein source which was huge for us. Also the deserts was to die for. Dive operation very professional, organized, helpful and friendly. 82 degree water and great visibility. The wall,Cayman trench. Impressive. Lots of small stuff. The greatest experience on this dive trip was when I found a pretty good sized octopus and he came out and showed all his tricks. Amazing. Last day they took us over to Little Cayman. Beautiful reef w lots of swim thru.
- Fidler
I loved it here! The resort was more than I even hoped for. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, great staff. My room was very clean and had everything I needed. The food was great and there was a nice variety. Reef Divers who are located right next door was very good. They took care of everything for you which was so nice. I loved this place. The only downside with it I think you'd find anywhere on a small island is a lack of things to do on land. The resort held simple activities in the evening which was fun. I would definitely go back! The diving was great.
- Roxanne
This was our 6th year in a row to Brac so that should tell you something. Unfortunately, our trip lined up with Hurricane Irma. We live in Central Florida and there has to be some irony in going to the Caribbean during a Hurricane. The folks at the resort kept us updated and it was obvious the hurricane would not be a threat. We arrived Sept. 7th but our bags didn't. They were't put on the commuter in Grand Cayman. No problem. We hand carry our regs, computers, and one set of rash guards. Reef Divers hooked us up with free gear for the morning dives on Friday and we had our bags when we got back. We expected to lose Saturday and Sunday due to winds but Reef Divers offered 4 dives instead of 3 on Monday and Tuesday to make up for it. As always, we had a great time. Probably the most sharks we've seen. Oh yeah...on our return on the 14th, we were on Cayman Airways flight 200 that lost an engine shortly after takeoff! Landed safely and were on the way home three hours later.
- Fletcher
Diving in the Brac was outstanding as usual. Valet diving is the best. Great divemasters, beautiful resort. Lodging, food and bar first rate. Personnel terrific as always.
- John
Our trip to this resort was GREAT. The grounds were clean and very well maintained, The staff, dive, housekeeping, bar and front desk always had a smile and ready to help make us feel special. AND the chef was all around the highlight of the trip (the diving was good too). We would defiantly recommend this to friends and return ourselves when the opportunity arises. You will be amazed with there "Valet Diving Service", You don your wet-suit, carry your mask and fins to the back of the boat, Sit on a small bench and the crew brings your tank and BCD to you, helps with the shoulder straps and hose routing, and you stride into the blue (and a very nice shade of blue). On the return you remove your fins, climb the ladder and sit back on the same bench as they remove your BCD from the tank, carry both to your spare gear and set up the BCD on a fresh tank for your next dive. WOW, say it backwards, WOW.
- Kevin
Cayman Brac Beach Resort was very nice; concierge diving off large boats but we generally had ten on board. And they let us go off on our own. It was calm enough so we steamed to Little Cayman and did dives on Bloody Bay Wall. All the wall dives were great!! Can highly recommend the people, the venue, and the bottom time. We'll probably spend two weeks there next winter
- Bob
Great vacation. Also they run a great dive operation.
- Jack
Our trip was great! The room, food and service was great and the resort is well maintained and very nice. The diving was good and we didn’t see anything out of the ordinary and honestly we were talking about things that we didn’t see in Cayman Brac. Turtles were few and far between, schools of yellow jacks, eels (we saw two green moray eels and one spotted eel), only one Juvenile Drum fish, no flounder or spotted eagle rays. Honestly it was a little strange the number of things that we always see in the Caribbean that we didn’t see here. We still enjoyed it, but I’m hoping that the Lion Fish and other environmental factors haven’t effected the fish life in the Caribbean.
- Shelly
My wife, Mary, myself and friend Larry Weisenfluh stayed at Cayman Brac Beach Resort June 4 thru June 11, 2018 and did 6 days of diving with Reef Divers and we had a great time. Everyone was friendly and very helpful on the dive boats Big Sister and Ocean Sister. Meals were great and staff very friendly. Had a great time petting the friendly grouper. We have already booked another dive trip to Little Cayman Beach Resort this December and planning another diving trip to Cayman Brac in May 2019. I have been Scuba diving for 52 years and Cayman Brac is the best diving location I have found to date. Can't wait to go back again. Thanks to everyone at Cayman Brac Beach Resort and Reef Divers of Cayman Brac for their hospitality and Mossy for his great tour of the island.
- William
Cayman Brac was fantastic! I will go back again.

Excellent time at Cayman Brac Resort. Our fifth time there and not disappointed at all. They really have up-graded and invested a lot of money in making this a first class resort. The dive operation with their "valet" diving means we didn't have to deal with our equipment at all. We had one minor problem - our air conditioner in our room was extremely noisy. We talked to the front desk about this and within 15 minutes, maintenance came in and replaced the whole unit with a new one. We can't say enough about this terrific place!
- Jim
Had a great time diving, got 25 dives including two trips to Little Cayman to dive the bloddy Bay Wall, and a night dive. Food was great and the staff was wonderful.
- John
All aspects of the resort were wonderful. We will definitely return. We were there when the sever cold fronts came across the US and down into our latitudes. Therefore, it was sandy and cold every day. These elements made the “diving” part of our trip only mediocre. But, this is was the hand mother nature dealt us.
- A.
The diving was great especially the service on the dive boats. The hotel rooms were good and the food was the best I have had on any vacation. My overall rating on the dive trip was a 9 out of 10.
- Rich
Brac Reef Resort is an awesome resort and Cayman Brac is peaceful and quiet. If you want to relax and chill, this is the place for you. Small island, amazing diving, great food, great service. Reef Divers operation is first class!!! Look for Barbie, Beccy, and Eric.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Brac Reef resort and diving with Reef Divers. Our room was clean, a bit musty at first, but it seemed to go away as the week went on. The food was awesome. The staff courteous and cheerful. The grounds were clean. It was peaceful and not crowded. The diving was unbelievable. Reef Divers dive masters were great. Their dive shop staff were not very friendly. But the boats and DM’s were excellent. We would like to go back again to there and Little Cayman at their sister resort.

I had a great time on Cayman Brac last month. The resort was perfect. Normally I don't like air conditioning even in the Caribbean but there I really appreciated it. What I liked best about the meals was the fact that they were all buffets. I liked being able to pick exactly what I wanted to eat and pick my own portions. I hate wasting food. The diving was great too. The boat easily had enough room for all the divers and our stuff, and I liked that the sites were relatively close. I do wish shore diving had been available at the resort. Overall my friend and I had a great time on our vacation.
- Desisace
I was very satisfied with Cayman Brac. The people there were fantastic. The dive boats were great as well as the dive masters. Food was terrific. Over all just a great experience. I would definitely go back.
- Marie
The trip to Brac was great. The folks at Reef Divers really have their act together. The diving was terrific and I was very pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. Unfortunately, I had a few pounds to work off when I got home but that is what vacation is about. I also thought it was a nice touch that the resort had some sort of activity each evening whether it was bingo or a movie or the bar-b-q. I used the bikes that they made available every day-it is not hard to cover a good portion of the island on a bike. We rented a car for Friday afternoon and went to the more distant parts that I had not reached by bike. I would definitely go back to Cayman Brac and Reef Divers again on a dive vacation. I think that my diving buddy feels the same way.

My trip to Brac Reef Resort, was very relaxing & wonderful! The weather was perfect. The resort was very nice, rooms clean & modern. The service was excellent. The food even more so. We really did enjoy the buffet & the various selections for each meal. The diving was awesome. The reefs appear to be very healthy here. We were excited to see sharks on a couple dives, as well as eagle rays & numerous groupers & stingrays.
- Lisa
My recent vacation to Brac Reef resort was so fabulous! Not only was the hotel staff super friendly and nice, the other vacationers were too. When I got to the resort, my luggage did not make it until the next day. The manager gave me a hotel T-shirt to wear so that I may have a fresh shirt. The dive shop was wonderful in providing me with gear to borrow for the first two dives of the day (until my stuff showed up). The diving was outstanding! We only saw 4 Lion fish the whole week. The Lion fish are fed to the Goliath groupers at the dive sites, some are very friendly, often swimming up to divers for a pet and some good company. Once or twice the grouper would lead the Divemaster to a lion fish. The DMs also exhibited excellent technique and coral sparing behavior, and on a few occasions pulled a certain diver (not me lol) aside to explain their behavior was detrimental to coral. The food was delicious! I gained 4 pounds in the week! Three desert choices at lunch, and three more (different) at dinner. I often had more than one dessert! The DM staff all went out on Friday night and invited me and some other guests and it was a blast!!! What a way to see the island! The island was beautiful and exactly the type of dive vacation I love - quiet, small island with not a lot of lights, casinos or store after store of the same old souvenirs. As a matter of fact I had to search for a souvenir shop! The resort has an awesome 'family' feeling- I felt like I was visiting long lost family while I was there!!!!
- Kristine
What a wonderful vacation... Everything went smooth...flights ( no worries on the Cayman Air ) ,transfers to hotel, hotel and staff, dive staff and boats, food. Everyone really loved the laid back feel of the island. Great place to " unwind ". Absolutely NO complaints. We loved the non stop from DTW also
- Shelley
Brac Reef Resort on Cayman Brac was great. The staff was very nice and helpful, the rooms were clean and they ALL had an ocean view! The diving was fantastic and our dive masters were outstanding! We were really blown away by the food for both breakfast and dinner. And the food from the on-site bar was great. I highly recommend the Mahi Mahi. At night there were large tarpon and eagle rays just swimming by the peer! We had a great time and are already thinking about our next trip.
- Kim
Well while we had our issues - overall I would say very good. It takes a long time to get to and from - our average travel time each way was 18 hours. There were only a few people at the resort while we were there, so we were permitted to order off of the bar menu most of the time and for all dinners - which was a huge plus. I don't think I would get the meal plan if I had to eat the buffet for dinner. Dive op was excellent, although they will put a lot of people on one boat, but no complaints. I was sick (cold) most of the trip, so I sat out two afternoon dives (made 9). Others made all 11. The concierge op is very nice. Diving highlight was Bloody Bay wall on Little Cayman and the wreck. For the disaster of the trip, my son sheared his eardrum on dive 3 so we got to meet the island doctor (Dr. Reid) who is this Oxford trained Brit inexplicably living on the Brac. August will be fine and Dr. Reid (and subsequently DAN). The rooms are clean and comfortable enough, but a bit small. We rented a car and toured the island and the caves - drove out to the bluff and lighthouse, etc. which was pretty neat. Everyone has been asking me if it worth the extra travel (as opposed to Grand Cayman) and I would say it was worth doing once. Little Cayman diving looks more interesting, but it is more expensive. In fact, you could stay on the Brac, charter the boat, dive Little Cayman every day (40 minute boat ride) and save money as opposed to staying on Little Cayman.
- Randall
Had a great time in the Brac; Went there last year, also. Same great diving experience; dive operation is superb with their "valet diving"; the dining was good last year, but this year the food was excellent with quite a variety of wonderful choices; the room and facility were great; hope to go again next year!
- Jim
I loved everything about the Cayman Brac Resort.
- Kathie
I absolutely love this dive Resort. This dive shop is truly incredible and extremely safety oriented as is so important to me. Hardly any people here and we have the place to ourselves. Outstanding facilities, food, staff, and excellent visibility and diving.
- Kathy
We had a great time!
- Dave
The resort (accommodations, food, and all personnel) and dive operations were excellent. As a moderately experienced diver (nearly 300 scuba dives in the ocean, mostly in the Caribbean), I was very pleased with the service provided to divers, but I was disappointed in the status of the reefs themselves. Many had excessive amounts of benthic algae. We had to dive on the north side for every dive but one because the waves were too large in their estimation, whereas the south side seemed to be in better shape. Sharks were absent (a disappointment) except for one seen at a distance from our boat, while turtles were present in small numbers (less than 1 per dive on average). Green morays and groupers were moderately common. Given my great anticipation of diving on those reefs (especially as someone who teaches marine biology), I would probably not recommend the site to experienced divers. However, for divers with only a few (50 or so) dives or who aren’t marine biologists (!), it is an excellent place to go.
- Jim T.
We made it to the Resort! The place is nice, staff excellent, food great, 2 dives this morning and getting ready for our afternoon dive.
- Patricia G.
The resort was great, the food incredible, and the valet diving was beyond outstanding!!!
- Ann L.
I have been to CBBR several times in the past and this time was just as expected - amazing! We were originally traveling to Cobalt Coast on Grand Cayman but since the property was sold, they offered to move our group to Cayman Brac at no additional charge. They paid for the additional flights and the more expensive rooms on Brac. No questions! They were happy to do it. The resort is beautiful with an amazing staff and grounds. The food is buffet style and was absolutely delicious. I may not eat that well until I visit Brac Reef again in June. I honestly can't say enough good about this trip or the resort. 5 Star, A+
- Steve O.
Hi all went well. The resort had some upgrades going on but they made sure it did not disturb the guests. Rooms were amazing. All our guest received their requested rooms. The staff was very welcoming. The resort has informational videos that they play for everyone who arrives which was very helpful. The diving was amazing as always. The boats were clean and always on time. The dive crew was amazing. The entire group had a great time
- Cindy H.
Our dive guides George and Steve at Little and Carl and Rozie on Brac were all fun and enthusiastic. We really appreciate the valet diving service from Reef Divers. We thought the food and friendliness of staff at Little Cayman was better overall, but wow the desserts at Cayman Brac were hard to resist. The pool and bar area at Brac was nicer in our opinion. Oh, and an island tour in the pm with Mossy is a must! We loved his narrative of the history of Brac and meeting a few locals along the way. As for the dives, we really appreciated the variety of dive sites: the swim throughs and walls, healthy fish life as well as seeing so many turtles and eagle rays! Overall a great trip and highly recommend!
- Amanda L.
This was my first dive resort experience and wow, the bar is set very high! Reef Divers Carl, Laura, and Barbie were so fun to dive with, knowledgeable, and made it easy and fun. The resort was comfortable, had an easy layout, and the food was amazing! Bartenders Chino and Gigi kept the drinks flowing. I continued to be impressed that everyone knew me by name and the service was excellent. I also squeezed in time to get a massage at the spa - highly recommended way to relax after a week of diving and before the end of week BBQ dinner. I can’t wait to come back!!
- Heather G.
Good Aspects - The staff, including the dive staff, was exceptionally and consistently friendly and responsive. Set a very nice tone. The location of the dive shop was ideal, literally a 30 second walk from the dining area. The dive boats were spacious (three 46 footers with twin diesels) and they were able to readily "launch" three divers at a time. Numerous dive sites within a 10-15 minute cruise from the resort. Diving was great! Good sea life (multiple sightings of barracuda, reef sharks, many lobster) and coral, although sadly the effects of warming were noticeable. Visibility ~100' +. The "valet" service for the BC's/tanks was quite nice and the dive guides were excellent in spotting interesting marine life and knowledge about the dive sites. We were told that over the prior week, diving had been cancelled for nearly three days due to winds. Fortunately we missed that. The meals were quite good, not excellent but notable given the volumes that were produced. Frankly the desserts were exceptional. I ended the week by gaining two pounds, good news and bad news. The bar and pool area were nicely designed and visually appealing. Okay but - the rooms were tight. One could correctly comment that little time was spent in the room other than changing, showering and sleeping so overall not a major factor. Not So Great - The site did not have an exercise room, something that my wife dearly had hoped for and frankly expected. The staff was responsive in providing weights (from the dive shop!), mats and an area to exercise. But a room with a bike and some true exercise weights would have been nice, especially for the non-divers. The beach was disappointing and not utilizable for swimming. Excessive seaweed/algae. Would have thought that they could remediate that with a load of sand barged in. Overall we had a great time.
- Kevin & Carolyne M.
The dive staff and pool area and bar at Cayman Brac were great! Rooms are a bit worn and dated. My biggest disappointment was that you can't really swim or snorkel from the resort beach - it is all hardscape and not suitable for swimming or snorkeling. Food was plentiful; quality was average except for desserts which were excellent. Reefs are not in good condition in March 2024. After last summer's prolonged heat wave and a big storm which caused sand to cover many corals in Feb., 2024, marine life was much less apparent than we've ever seen at any Caribbean destination. Not the resort's fault obviously, but we would not return anytime soon because the life is so sparse.

I absolutely love this dive Resort. This dive shop is truly incredible and extremely safety oriented as is so important to me. Hardly any people here and we have the place to ourselves. Outstanding facilities, food, staff, and excellent visibility and diving.
- Kathy
We had a great time!

The advanced Mayan civilization originated in the Yucatan area of what is now Mexico around 2600 ...
Hotel Cozumel and Dive Paradise were gracious hosts. The divemasters, Jose & Martin from Renagado were the best! we did 21 dives during the week, including 2 cenote dives on the mainland, and three night dives right off the dock. Turtles, nurse sharks, splendid toadfish, and morays were in abundance. We highly recommend this dive vacation. P.S.- get the all-inclusive at Hotel Cozumel.

Overall, the trip was great. Room was average, food was good, pool area was nice, service was great. Pros on room: clean, spacious Cons on room: bad tv picture on most channels, hard bed Diving services were excellent as well as the diving! Saw normal fish, eels, nurse shards, turtles….did see a couple of frog fish for the first time in my life! I would go back to this place.

Our trip to Cozumel was great. Our stay at the Hotel Cozumel was also great. We really enjoyed our scuba diving with Dive Paradise. The boats, dive masters, and dives were great. The only thing we got a little tired of was the same meals everyday, but we adjusted.

Staff - very good, helpful, courteous. Rooms - average. Food - mediocre Dive Paradise : boats sometimes too crowded, too many slow boats, all the divemasters and crew are great
- Tiki
Rooms were fine. Good for the value. Except for breakfasts, the dining room food was mediocre. As I expected. Hotel service staff was excellent. Dive Masters and crew were excellent. Some days the boats were too crowded. All but two days we were on the slowest boat on the island. Taking 5 1/2 hours for 2-tank a.m. dives was ridiculous. I'd stay at this hotel before and dove w/ Dive Paradise before; so knew what to expect.
- Ron
What an incredible deal! The hotel Cozumel is low profile full super service friendly operation with some of the best available diving on the Island. Dive Paradise. The fast boats put us wherever we chose to go faster than mostly everybody. The staff are all pros and all seem to love their jobs. They set up your gear in a flash and we're right there after an hour plus drift dive. The Hotel food was fresh, local and actually extraordinary for an all inclusive. I don't drink alcohol but my dive buddy did and he kept saying no thank you when they wanted to keep his glass full. Amazing service for an all inclusive! The rooms and grounds are spotless and the underground tunnel to the dive shop and beach is cool and convenient. I guess you can tell I was impressed and I have been diving since 1978 in Cozumel and also been round the world. I also couldn't believe the beautiful condition of the reefs considering the hundreds of divers that daily dive the sites. Glad I returned...go

We have been to Cozumel several times, but never stayed at Hotel Cozumel. Apple and Enrique from Cozumel assured us that we would love the Hotel. Well, they were right! We had a fabulous time. Checked in to the hotel without any problems. We were helped to our rooms and were able to eat lunch after unpacking and getting settled. Dive Paradise was open late, so we were able to check in there, sign up for the dives, get our dive lockers and put our gear in the lockers and be ready for diving. All of this went according to plan, but the weather did not cooperate. Dive Paradise really worked with the group and assured us we were going to dive on Thursday, which we did. Dive Paradise, once again did an outstanding job. We dove every day and the dives were amazing. I think their fish are on steroids. I have not seen fish that large in a long time. The coral formations were beautiful and the fish life abundant. All of the meals at Hotel Cozumel were amazing and the wait staff was very friendly and helpful. We felt really comfortable at the resort and if we had any questions there was always someone available to help. Everyone had a great time and the resort was amazing. We will be back.

I had a good trip in Cozumel. The first day on the fast boat-which was fast, there was a woman who had zero buoyancy control. We spent the day on 50' reefs. I complained loudly and with much vigor after that. The folks at Dive Paradise gradually got the idea that whatever fast boat I was on, we were going to start the day off with a wall dive-which up until recently was the standard for Cozumel. The last day that I was diving, I was walking down to my assigned boat and on it was the woman with zero diving skills. I had to go back to the office and complain again-they got me on another fast boat with divers that knew how to dive. Unless I made a fairly large stink out of my situation with Dive Paradise-even on the fast boats-I would of ended up doing beginning level diving most of the week. By complaining-which I don't normally like to do-I did dive the better walls though-it just took some work-which I was not planning on. Also, for the week that I was there, they could not get the required 4 divers together for a boat night dive-which I would of liked. Anyway, this is what happened. Let others know that the fast boats-are indeed fast-just not filled with experienced divers on a regular basis.
- Fred
Just keep telling yourself you did not pay for a 5 star resort and you will not be disappointed. We read the reviews before we left and there were no real surprises. The food does get old after 4 or 5 days so if your staying 7 take note: Breakfast-the omelet chef will put anything you want in a grilled egg so there should be no complaints. Lunch- by the pool the chef will put anything you want in a tortilla shell and the steak or the chicken were good. Dinner- If it were great you would probably get fat. This is the only hit or miss meal of the day. We used the time to socialize with others we met diving and to enjoy the all-inclusive free drinks. I don't think the alcohol is poured full strength so find a drink you like the taste of and pick them up two at a time. (Pina-Colado with Banana) Staff was very friendly and helpful and you'll have a few favorites after and couple of days (Ours were Henri and Rodrigo) Paradise Dive: Excellent Operation, great diving, water was 86 degrees.
- Allen
Great dive trip and all went smoothly. We enjoyed the drift diving and were super impressed with the Aldora operation. Our Dive master was Julio who is a IDC instructor and was just a brilliant dive guide and dive technician and who was also owner of the separate tank fill operation. He repaired our gear on the boat on the fly and was able to get my BCD replaced overnight (25 dollars) when my auto inflate button failed. He taught me more about dive computers and decompression models than I ever new or may have forgotten. He was very effective at the big and small things and showed me pipe seahorse which I actually managed to photograph. We were initially put on a larger boat with another group which probably worked out well for the start as we all got used to diving with the 120 steel tanks and the necessary adjustments to our buoyancy. We then got our own small boat so it was the 5 of us Julio and the captain. They took care of your gear every night (we stashed all our gear minus wetsuits in the supplied mesh bags) and would wait for our pick up at the dock at 7:30 to find our dive gear all set up and waiting for us. DEFINITELY worth the 93 per day we paid for the two tank boat dives and 10 per tank for nitrox. 32% for the morning deep dive and 36% for the second shallow dive. Most dives were around 75 minutes and given the depths we were diving in Cozumel the 120’s were greatly appreciated. We dove right to the south end the then just about as far south as you can go. In hindsight we maybe should have stayed with Scuba Club Cozumel as there was a better connection to the ocean although we could not have dove with Aldora. Hotel Cozumel was OK but not great and the food and drinks passable but nothing to write home about.
- Bob
Excellent dive company. Food was good. Service was awesome. Rooms were comfortable and clean.
- Pat
Loved Hotel Cozumel. Dive masters were knowledgeable and attentive. Hotel staff courteous and prompt. Will definitely come back.
- John
We went to Hotel Cozumel and have gone there for several years. I stopped going for two years due to the food was just so so. The meal plan is awesome, but the food is just plain. I went back and the food is the same. Hotel is clean and people are friendly. I would recommend getting the all inclusive but go somewhere in town for dinner. Town is a short walk away. We dove with Dive Paradise. Love the operation, however The manager of the dive shop was not accommodating when we requested specific dive masters, who we have had for years. They found out I was on island and was upset they were not put on our boats. They told me they were off, but in reality they were given off when I arrived. Not too happy about that. I also got pre approved to use a credit card, but had to walk into town to pay. The shop at the resort knew nothing. Wasn't happy either. I will address this with the owner at Dive Paradise.
- Cindy
The hotel and staff were great, I thought. Everything you wanted in inclusiveness & the facilities very cute! Dive Paradise was decidedly different from my experiences 10 years ago over 3 dive trips. Out of 5 dive days, only 2 were worth talking about. I think the service…dive masters, boat crew, guides, were much less skillful than I remember. On at least 5 of the dives, the dive crews 1) took roll call before the dive, but NOT after. During about half the dives, the guide for our group finned far ahead of the divers, who wanted to slow down and see more stuff. Rarely did they re-group or count noses, wait for people to catch up. On the last day, a 2-dive AM trip, the guide was a young kid who chose a route over the sandy plains with little reef life, contrary to the group’s request for a drift over the close-by wall.
- Raymond
I took a group of 14 divers to Cozumel. The accommodations were excellent and the staff at the resort were very professional and friendly. Dive Paradise staff were amazing and very accommodating. We had an amazing time and loved the diving! August was a great time to go!. There was a couple days of rain but overall perfect!
- Tawna
Diving off of Cozumel is always wonderful, and the folks at Dive Paradise were very helpful. The instructors were friendly and master divers who took the time and care to help out the less experienced divers in our group. The staff at Hotel Cozumel were also wonderful, very friendly and kind. We loved all the staff we encountered there. The rooms at Hotel Cozumel, however, are in terrible need of remodeling. The furniture is old, cheap and worn, and the beds are extremely hard. The rest of the resort was fairly nice, but once in the rooms it felt like we were staying in a 1.5 star motel. The adjoining rooms, however, were good for a large family group. All-in-all, it was a good trip for the diving, but there was no luxury.
- Jason
Our family had an absolutely amazing time in Cozumel Hotel & Resort. The staff at Dive Paradise was incredible and went out of their way to help us get comfortable under the water. We saw so many incredible things, learned how to navigate through a maze of coral tunnels, and ended up diving 9 times in 4 days. The whole family is officially addicted to scuba diving and we can't wait to get to Bonaire! :)
- Amanda E.
The group enjoyed most everything. The hotel was quite dated. Food okay and pools were wonderful. The Dive House staff was great and very accommodating. All in all good dive vacation.
- Shelley E.
The rooms need updated, the food was great, along with Staff and Diving!

Dominica is a mountainous Caribbean country located in the Lesser Antilles. Pristine reefs mean rewarding scuba diving. Also known as "The Nature Island” due to its lush varied flora, fauna and rain forests. There are extensive protected national parks in addition to exciting dive sites. As a result, it has 365 rivers, streams and multiple waterfalls. Lava craters from volcanic peaks create lake...
The trip was great. All arrangements went like clockwork. The room was large and comfortable. Air conditioning worked fine and we enjoyed the balcony. The staff at the hotel was friendly and pleasant. Dive Dominica did a great job picking us up at the hotel on time every day. Most of the diving was easy and relaxing, one dive site had strong currents and several of us choose not to dive after 5 minutes in the water. Dive Dominica gladly aborted the dive, took us to another site and we did our two dives. The norm for the first dive is 100 ft max and 1 hour max. The second dive is usually 60 ft max and 1 hour max. The reef around Dominica is healthy and vibrant. No large fish but lots of reef fish with several frog fish and a few sea horses. We had one cute baby octupus in the sand we watched for several minutes. Several shrimp and crabs, lots of eels and if you went up to Dive Dominica's main shop and dove the area just out back you could find a red-lipped batfish, an odd and so ugly it's cute creature.
- Fred and Maxine
I can tell you that our group had a wonderful time. The island is beautiful, the diving is amazing. We haven't seen reefs in such great condition in a long time. The dive shop, Dive Dominica was very accommodating and there was always 2 divemasters in the water, one in front leading the dive and the other in the back diving with the photographers. We were never left unattended. We have several photographers on the trip who usually go slower.

Everything you Need except a Gift Shop We had a waterfront room in the newer section and was very pleased with the accommodations. The entire hotel is immaculately clean. The location is great, right on the edge of town. It is an easy walk to anything you need; shopping, dining, groceries, bank, etc. The staff is very friendly and personable. The only negative is that they are very slow in providing any type of service. The first night, I called the front desk for a 7am wake up call. It’s a good thing we woke early on our own because the call never came. The second morning our coffee maker wasn’t working. I called the front desk and was told that they would bring another one. One had not yet arrived when we had to leave for our day of diving. When we returned to our room that afternoon, still no working coffee maker. I saw a housekeeper in our hallway and mentioned it to her and she had us a replacement within 5 minutes. Ken’s Hinterland Adventure Tours (KHATTS) operates out of Ft Young. Sonya was a blessing in arranging all our island excursions and the on-site dive shop is run by Ken. They can organize everything; shuttle/taxi service, hiking to beautiful falls, complete island tours, whale watching and diving. The dive shop at Ft Young is run by Ken. He organizes the dive trips through Dive Dominica. They pick you up at the Ft Young pier. When returning, they help with your gear, rinse it, hang it to dry and store it safely overnight. Then each morning they have it out and ready for your next dive adventure. If you have any difficulty in climbing stairs, beware. You can’t get anywhere without first going up/down steps. The main entrance is on the 4th floor and our room was on the 2nd floor. Anytime we left our room we had to go down some stairs before we went up some and then had to go down again. There is an elevator but I think you have to go up the stairs before you can get to it. My husband would say that I am addicted to gift shops and that was one thing that Ft Young does not have. I missed being able to buy a Ft Young T-shirt and other miscellaneous gift shop items. We had a wonderful week here and I would highly recommend. Dive Dominica Paradise Under the Water This is an excellent dive operation. We dove with them for 5 days/10 tanks. We stayed at Ft Young and Dive Dominica would pick us up each morning at 8:30am at Ft Young’s pier. They were well organized, the boats were roomy and not overbooked. The groups ranged from 5 to 10 divers per trip. There were always 2 Divemasters with us. One lead and one followed although we were allowed to go at our own pace, our own depth and stopped whenever we wanted for photo ops. We never felt rushed and were never herded together into a group. The DMs also helped find those hard to find critters. Because of their knowledge of the dive sights we saw a couple of Frogfish, several Seahorses and lots of Scorpion Fish. Although fish life isn’t as abundant as some other Caribbean locations, it was very diverse and we saw a lot of creatures that we’ve never seen anywhere else. Ken’s Hinterland Adventure Tours They Provided All our Fun for the Week Our first encounter with KHATTS was upon arriving at the airport. Ft Young uses their shuttle service to and from the airport. Even though our flight was early, they were there to pick us up. They took care of our baggage and told us a little island history on our 1-1/4 hr drive to the hotel. Sonya works at Ft Young and can set up any island excursion you want through KHATTS including the diving. We did several hikes (Trafalgar Falls, Middleham Falls, Ti Tou Gorge, Screw Spas, Emerald Pool and a complete island tour that also took us on a float trip on the Indian River and to the Carib Reserve). Every excursion was very well organized and enjoyable. Our guides were very knowledgeable about the plants & trees, the island’s history and were great storytellers. I give a special shout out to Clem and Shane in providing us with lifetime memories. We also arranged a whale sighting tour through Sonya and saw several Sperm Whales. They made our week on Dominica a once in a lifetime experience.

Just got back from a wonderful dive vacation in Dominica. The staff at Buddy Dive were great and the boat was comfortable. It was a fairly large boat that could hold 14 divers for a two tank trip but there was only on average 8 divers so there was plenty of room. The reef looked healthy and saw lots of critters. It was sad to see that the locals had set out fish traps and they were full of beautiful reef fish, eels, and lobsters. The staff at the hotel were very accommodating and pleasant. We especially appreciated that as soon as we stepped out of the airport the first thing we saw was our driver holding a sign with our name on it. The hotel room was modern and very comfortable but there were so many steps. I realize this was an old (and historic) fort but it is laid out in a multi level maze. Couldn't go anywhere without walking up and down then up and down again. We really liked Dominica, the mountains, rain forest, and not too developed. Would go back in a heartbeat but it is a big world and a short life.
- Carl
A wonderful island full of natural wonders and a beautiful lack of development. Along with that comes bad roads and a long, bumpy, white knuckle shuttle ride from the airport to the resort. The hotel is actually an old fort in part. The rooms are comfortable and it seems as if every room has a pretty nice view. The restaurants are all open air and the food was good though not great. The breakfast buffet left a bit to be desired, but there were enough choices and eggs cooked to order if desired. My primary reason for visiting was the diving and it was very good. The waters were a bit cloudy from recent storm activity, but the reef is alive with great amounts of sea life. The on site dive shop was very accommodating and the entire staff, as with the resort staff, could not have been more outgoing.
- Mark
Buddy Dive was excellent - the diving is the best we have seen in the Caribbean in 15 years, lots of healthy corals, sponges are huge, beautiful, fish life abundant, sperm whales and dolphins, and the island is beautiful. Take time for a waterfall tour. Fort Young is OK if you stay in the new rooms - the old rooms off the bar area are very noisy, tiny, and the bar is loud, so request a better room. The breakfast is lame, dinner OK, walk a few blocks for better food at Fusion or Old Stone.
- Skogland
Fort Young Hotel is a very nice resort and we had a wonderful time staying there. We all were not thrilled, however, with the system Buddy Dive (located within resort) managed divers' gear placement on the boat. They have very nice drying rooms and plenty of hangers for BC's and wetsuits, plentiful rinse tanks, wonderful dive masters. But their system to place divers' equipment on the two different boats is very confusing and often times leads to having your gear end up on the wrong boat. They do a check of each diver's gear before heading out, but it is disconcerting to not have all your gear readily on the boat when that is what you've been told will happen. Two different colors of Individual, numbered mesh bags for each person's gear would be ideal. That way, we can each load our gear into the bag and load it on to the correct wheelbarrow which goes down to each boat. Each boat could have one color of mesh bag for each diver but the colors would be different for each boat.
- Scott
Dominica was awesome. Would definitely consider another trip to Ft. Young hotel. Only downside is the steps. We liked it, got lost several times. Weather, diving, people, room were all great. Food was good.

Manta Ray Bay and all its employees were above our expectations. We had a wonderful room overlooking the bay which was clean and comfortable. Contrary to some reports I had read before the trip we thought the food was outstanding, and the restaurant staff very accommodating to our group of 11. Our 2 dive guides, Mike and Nico, were with our group for almost all dives. They were good spotters and very helpful, pulling up my BC so I could climb the ladder "unencumbered." Backroll entry, 1 hour+ dives, nothing very deep (about 70 feet max). A great time while there, but very long plane ride.

Had a very good time. Could not ask for a better location to stay. All employee's where pleased to help. Dive masters were helpful and safety first. Asked what dive sites you wanted. Rooms were very clean and very clean. Saw Mantra Ray's. Food was Good and fair priced.

Manta Bay Resort was Outstanding! My room was Amazing! Deluxe ocean view room with stone shower is the best room on the resort. The staff was excellent, the dive operation first class. The diving was solid, had a great manta dive but not as many mantas as I was expecting.

Manta Ray Bay. The rooms are very nice, comfortable with good AC and have comfortable beds. The staff is friendly and efficient. The downside is their on site food, on a good day it's only fair and mostly not even that. We quickly learned to eat at other locations, along with many of the other guests. The dive operation was also friendly and the dive guides were competent and cooperative. We had some poor vis compared to prior trips, and heard that they'd had rough weather that had caused it, especially inside on the Manta Ray trips. We dove NITROX, and were surprised to find that their tanks were consistently testing for less 02 than rated. I think it was around 28% when they were rated at 32%. Interestingly the dive ops hadn't caught that their self mixing NITROX maker was malfunctioning and we were the first to catch it. When we showed the manager he was very appologetic and embarrassed and didn't charge us the mark up for the mixed gas for the week. They also couldn't change/fix the mixture because they had to contact the manufacturer in Germany for guidance and there was a slow turn around.
