DIVING THE PHILIPPINES

Puerto Galera - a diving paradise with crystal clear waters, abundant marine life and a variety of diving environments. Especially sought after is muck diving by underwater photographers. Conversely, are Canyons where currents sweep divers through three gorgeous canyons covered in a variety of soft corals and sponges. Take your time inside these structures to find large schools of fish including barracudas, batfish, snappers, emperors and trevally. Opposite Puerto Galera is Verde Island. Here you will find vast coral formations and high voltage scuba diving sites. Dumaguete - this entire area is a world-class scuba diving destination. Drift-lovers will want to add Coconut to their must-dive list. Local Filipinos called it the Washing Machine, this site isn’t for the faint of heart. But you’re sure to see lots of interesting marine life. Such as huge schools of pelagic fish, banded sea kraits and sea turtles. Occasionally bait balls form. Central Visayas Region

Cebu - the coastline ranges from beaches to limestone cliffs so you can experience all kinds of diving from critter dives on sandy bottoms, to 100 foot walls. Moalboal has a vast array of marine life, from the very tiny Denise Pygmy Seahorse, to the sexy and elegant Thresher Shark that is often spotted hunting the huge school of Sardines that reside at Panagsama Wall. The Sardine bait ball is a spectacle all by itself, with well over a million sardines making up the school. Watch them shift and change shapes as the predators swoop in to catch a tasty mouth full, is just mesmerizing. Best By Dive Liveaboards

One of the most remote diving destinations in the Philippines, Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park is only reachable by dive liveaboards between March and June. It’s also considered a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Apo Reef is the world’s second-largest contiguous coral reef system. Together they boast 600 species of fish, 360 species of coral, 13 whale and dolphin species, and 11 species of shark. Coron is best known for the WWII wrecks in its shallow and protected waters.
