We liked the Occidental Papagayo Resort. It is not a hotel for people who don't like walking up hills. There is a shuttle that goes to the rooms but there is still walking. The resort was larger than I would have thought. It is a nice resort but the rooms are showing their age. The grounds are very well kept. Very nice pool and beach area. All of the beaches are public access beaches so they are not private.
The buffet food was adequate for a vegetarian but above average for a meat eater. There was salad at every meal and the bread was excellent. The specialty restaurants (Italian and Asian) had a higher quality of food.
We also enjoyed diving with Rocket Frog divers. Great dive masters and the setup was efficient. The diving is not Caribbean diving. Very little coral but the abundant sea life made up for the lack of coral.
Overall a good trip after the initial bumpy part at the beginning.
